colorfuel
Good idea, but I think thats what the wiki is meant for. Because unless stickied, this thread is gonna be buried under many others in a matter of days. If people would contribute more to the wiki, that would be fine. Also, it wouldnt be bad to include which version of the card you are using and what method you use to make it run. My contribution: Card: MSI NX8800GT Zilent Method: EFI Strings in apple.com.boot.plist Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/256222-cards-that-work-ootb/#findComment-1678324 Share on other sites
kocoman
I think we should add the bit of kernel (32 or 64), and also the version of OSX Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/256222-cards-that-work-ootb/#findComment-1678327 Share on other sites

BTW would models matter? should it work if it a 8800 no matter what the model? colorfuel
Is there even a card that just works OOB without any specific fiddling? As I see it, you will at least need "GraphicsEnabler = Yes" for the 8800GT and one of the latest Chameleon bootloaders. So thats some info most newcomers will need. I switched to latest chameleon release just yesterday and now there is no need for gfx strings anymore. Which is nice, really. Some cards are not reference Design and use different connector configurations, and I have read that for AMD users sometimes this can make a difference to how you make your card run. Not sure about Nvidia though. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/256222-cards-that-work-ootb/#findComment-1678800 Share on other sites

Not sure about Nvidia though. oh true that, i was thinking more along the line of a newbie fresh install and what cards will work with no problems. then when your up and running, you can put in your gfx strings. first time install for me, and trying to work what card i should use to install and get up and running seems like a pain! in the end its 8800 for till i can work out my next card. colorfuel
I believe there are a few BootCDs out there that let you boot into SL installation DVD and install with many different cards. (Like ##### for example) Then after installing, you set up chameleon, dsdt, gfx strings and whatever kext you need for the specific gfxcard and mobo and reboot. I hope I get what you are saying.. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/256222-cards-that-work-ootb/#findComment-1678808 Share on other sites
