SharpieFiend
I just installed OSX 10.4.6 on my Dell Inspiron 4150. Everything (except the wireless) seems to work great, but the funny thing is it says I have a 2.4Ghz P4-M when it should say 2.0Ghz. Is this a common? Are there any OSX applications that would properly report the CPU speed? Thanks! w.jeffrey
I have the same problem... it's nothing that I can't live with, but it's strange. I'm using a 3.4Ghz processor but 10.4.6 recognizes it as 3.07Ghz Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/25305-osx-misreporting-cpu-specs/#findComment-170981 Share on other sites

TopazBar
I will bet all of u have intel processor, right? Check all kernel patches that have been applied. From a terminal windown, type in the following: $strings -a /mach_kernel | grep MAXX Make sure all the patches are appropriate for ur processor. I think this is good starting point. OSX86tester
if thats the case explain why that command doesnt work??? I highly doubt it maxxuss patch. He droped off the face of the patching scene. and that was when 10.4 haha Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/25305-osx-misreporting-cpu-specs/#findComment-172571 Share on other sites
TopazBar
You must have type it wrong. bash thinks "-a" is a command. Type this to a terminal window exactly but without quotes "strings -a /mach_kernel | grep MAXX". I agreed that MAXXUSS is gone. His last work was on 10.4.4. But his work carries on even to 10.4.7. I have a 4150 myself, been using it since long before I put out Release1 (10.4.1) and it's always going to misread the CPU specs, it's just a fact of life with OSx86 for us. You know what CPU you have, so why bother with it? Superhai
Are there any OSX applications that would properly report the CPU speed? There are some terminal applications who can read the correct information. Or you could always make one yourself if it bothers you... philter
I have an AMD Athlon 64 1.8ghz...my CPU speed is being reported as 500MHZ. Yes 500mhz. It reported accurately in every version of OSX I've tried, except 10.4.6 hotiso...what is the difference that would make it report incorrectly in 4.6, if it worked in 4.4?
