The problem is that it keep saying Video card posted... Im using a Switchable label of hd 4200m and 5650m...

Well, first of all, you need to disable switchable graphics in your BIOS (I understand from what you say you have it enabled) and set that value on "Discrete", then try again. If you had not success, follow the instructions to install the bootloader posted in the first post.

Hope this helps.

So finally i got my new notebook (Packard Bell LM85) working with OSX.

the problem is: my graphics card is an Radeon HD 6550 Mobility [1002:68c1] and identifies as HD 5650 Mobility and has also the same id... i tried the tutorial at page 1 but failed, osx keeps booting screen black, when i try to set resolution to 1366x786 via switchresx i doesnt gain effort... it just wants a reboot and then again screen is black. when i try my native res 1600x900 it has the same effect. so pls help me, how do i set switchresx up right...?? or wont this guide work for my card?

ps. sry for my bad english ;)

So I've gone a bit deeper and I realized, that my OSX isnt booting at all when using GraphicsEnabler(further GE)=yes. So once more from the beginning:

I installed OSX 10.6.3 Retail via tonymacs ##### LEGACY Boot and did the ##### and 10.6.7/8 Comboupdate.

After that Booted via Chimera in GE=no and did overwrite (delete original an placed new one) the boot file in /

then i placed my vbios in /Extra replaced the ati kexts with the lion ones and rebootet with GE=yes AtiConfig=Hoolock my PC started just past the Ati Card Post and went Blackscreen then. He isnt working at all, does not boot into osx (no external display reacting (HDMI) and i'm not able to vnc into is. So to say: OSX does not boot at all. so one of you has any clue why it doesnt work? is it because my card is named 6550 but it has the same id as the 5650 1002.68c1 just more ram (1gb)

or is this guide only for 10.6.6? so do i have to reinstall and update to 10.6.6 via comboupdate?

pls help me, i'd love to run osx on that hardware!

SOLUTION --->

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=262286

Not... sry... tried it yesterday eve 4 hours of work, no idea what problem it is, osx isnt booting at all after the ati post in verbose (then when the font in verbose should get thicker) i keep on trying, but less of hope... anyone had the same prob? or is it after all my graphics card (6550m same id like 5650) with more ram ?

quick edit: i get him now booting till ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::registerLPCDRiver - failed to locate SMC driver...

then it loads my rtl8192SU. Ethernet address 00:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX and then it stops working

edit again^^: "Resetting IOCatalogue" after round about 10 minutes... now stop...

edit 3: now trying with fakesmc2.5 (snow)! maybe....

checcco, do you have the knowledge to integrate newer chameleon builds' Resolution.dylib module (which can provide higher resolution by reading unsupported connected monitor's EDID right out of their chip on start-up, then passing that info on to OS X in a way it can apply) into your mod of Kabyl's r749? The mod you compiled for the 5370 M is still the only one for me and others that gets beyond the infamous "ATI card posted, reading VBIOS from Legacy Space", but the the quarrel with the EDID begins. If you (or somebody you can think of) could integrate the resolution.dylib module, it would be the best out of both worlds!

Thank you,

Bugs.

Read other 5650m post in main thread, posted a few which will fix the ATI card posted issue or unrecognized problems. I do not think the resolutions module was designed for ATI, was it not designed for the Intel GM series chipsets?

yes, Azimutz already educated me in the meantime - been out of 'the scene' a bit 'cause of RL ..

In the meantime I got full res + QE/CI going on the lenovo with the 5730 M ;)

I have no idea what you consider the 'main thread' - would you please be so kind and post a URL??

Very easy to find, this thread dates back a while when Lion was going through DP1,2,3 etc stages.

This newer thread makes it easier for a lot more people.

<br />After some successes on this card I've been struggling for 3 days to try and get QE/CI on 5650m.<br />But my laptop didn't like the easy way so I've been reading dozens of topic and following dozens of guide.<br /><br />In the end I succeeded!<br /><br />I think this solution is nearly perfect. There's still something that can be fixed, but we have to work together.<br /><br />Here's how i got it (If you find an easier way or if you think I've done something not useful, just share it)<br /><br /><b>BE SURE TO BE ABLE TO VNC IN YOUR LAPTOP!!!</b><br /><br /><ol type='1'><li>Start from a clean 10.6.3<br /></li><li>Get your card bios as shown here <a href="http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1029" target="_blank">http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1029</a> (you must be in 32 bit mode to use this tool)<br /></li><li>Rename the dumped bios 1002_68c1.rom annd put it in your Extra folder<br /></li><li>Comboupdate to 10.6.6 in safe mode (-x)<br /></li><li>Before reboot install Lion's ATI5000, ATISupport and ATIFramebuffer (they are here on the forum) using KextHelper<br /></li><li>Overwrite your boot file with the one attached here that I compiled from Kabyl's source to make it work with 5650s<br /></li><li>Reboot with GraphicsEnabler=Yes AtiConfig=<b>READ BELOW</b></li></ol><br />At this point we reboot setting the right Framebuffer to work with our card. I've found two working framebuffers that behaves differently:<br /><br />A. <b>Hoolock</b><br />If you get corrupted screen VNC into your laptop and try to change resolution. I couldn't find 1366x768 so installed Switchresx to get it. <br /><b>STRANGE THING:</b>If you attach an external monitor you get only a mirrored screen and System Profiler will report only a monitor attached.<br />So if you choose this way reboot with: <b>GraphicsEnabler=Yes AtiConfig=Hoolock</b><br /><br />B. <b>Vervet</b><br />Again if you get corrupted screen VNC into your laptop and try to change resolution. I couldn't find 1366x768 so installed Switchresx to get it.<br /><b>STRANGE THING:</b>System profiler will report always 2 monitor attached even if you got no external monitor attached (and you can see it by looking at your laptop from VNC). OSX will behave like if you have an external monitor (you can drag windows etc..)<br />So if you choose this way reboot with: <b>GraphicsEnabler=Yes AtiConfig=Vervet</b><br /><br />I hope it's all clear.... And let's try altogether to solve the STRANGE THINGS <img src="style_emoticons/default/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /><br /><br />EDIT: I wanna thank hjs89 for suggesting Lion's kexts and for instructing me about recompiling Kabyl's boot. <img src="style_emoticons/default/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /><br /><br />boot.zip<br />
<br /><br /><br />

hi! plz tell me how did u do the "couldnt find 1366x768 so installed SwitchResX to get it"

because i have installed switchresx and everything, but my custom resolution is always showing "Not Installed".
