I've been screwing with this new machine for about a week now, trying to get 10.6.6 running stable on it. I've tried every boot disk from ##### to nawcom to kakewalk, and they all work until I update to 10.6.6. I'm able to get everything running, except for graphics drivers which I havent tried. Then After the 10.6.6 update, it loads almost all the way, then gets stuck at "com.apple.driver. ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin : start" or something like that.

It doesn't help to boot in safe mode.

it's an i7 950, EVGA x58 SLI3 motherboard with a Diamond 5870 1GB.

Can somebody give me some advice?

Thanks!

Been trying some new things with ##### 3.2, still having trouble though. Immediately after the update to 10.6.6, i ran #####, installed all the necessary kexts (maybe i'm missing some?) and restarted, now it's hung up on:

"ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::start - waitForServive(resourceMatching(AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement) timed out

W836x: found unsupported chip ID=0x5 REVISION=0x41

AppleTyMCEDriver::start coreVIDPID = 0xFFFFFFFFFF Number of packages = 1 Number of cpus = 8 memory monitor through MCA"

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP, most of my hair is gone at this point... lol

EDIT:

Also, the HD status LED is stuck ON at the point that it crashes.

^^Thanks for that, but I'm not sure I need to reinstall OS X again...

I've narrowed it down the the graphics card. I put in an older stock Mac Pro 7300GT I had kicking around and it booted right up.

I did some more searching, and many people said to use the expiramental Chameleon RC5 and 64bit apple boot screen, but that didnt work either.

Is this video card somehow not compatible? I know that OS X supports 5870s, I have one in my Mac Pro.

Any thoughts?

HAHA got it working, installed Chameleon RC5 ati, with graphics enabler.

I just bought the same mobo but using a EVGA GeForce 460SE. I forgot what flags I used when I installed it first so now I'm lost.

What process did u use to install to 10.6.6? I have ##### and SL Retail 10.6.3.

I actually used the Nawcom Boot CD booted, swapped with install disk, then installed. Booted the os with Nawcom, updated, then used ##### to install all the kexts and rollbacks.

Did you ever manage to get your audio working? I've tried everything and can't get it to work for more than 1 minute, with the voodoo kexts.

This quote below seems to indicate that your audio is a Realtek alc889 for your mobo?! My mobo has alc889 too.

http://osx86.co/f57/guide-evga-x58-snow-le...mac-os-x-t3854/

Step 9: Quote: After it boots up, just UPDATE using COMBO UPDATE 10.6.6 from apple's website. [MANUALLY]. After you update, sound is not going to work, just use this http://www.kexts.com/view/405-binary_patched_applehda.kext_for_alc889_(mac_os_x_ 10.6.4).html://http://www.kexts.com/view/405-binar..._ 10.6.4).html://http://www.kexts.com/view/405-binar..._ 10.6.4).html

Instructions:

Quote: Download AppleHDA.kext

Open Terminal and type these commands:

sudo cp -R AppleHDA.kext /System/Library/Extensions/

sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext

sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext

Wait about 15 minutes (kextcache needs to rebuild) or use pfix to manually rebuild cache, then reboot and you should have audio back!

Notice: You might need to manually remove caches, use this command: sudo rm -rf /system/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches Step 10: Quote: Dont forget to Repair permissions in DISK UTILITY after you've done everything.

In the newer versions of ##### there is ALC88xx a combo Realtex installer.

But in the older versions of ##### one had to select the correct xx in alc88xx, iirc 3 options.

I have a couple of motherboards with the 889a and have been using the 885/889a LegacyHDA successfully with 10.6.4/10.6.5 AppleHDA.

Does the new 8xxHDA require the 10.6.2 rollback? If yes, then it seems the previous LegacyHDA solution is still appropriate, correct?

----------------------------------------

tonymacx86: It will be identical support as your Legacy889aHDA.kext- you won't need AppleHDA Rollback with ALC8xxHDA on ALC889a.

So it's up to you whether you want to use the new one or the old Legacy889aHDA."

I've been experimenting using the USB stick nawcom method to install 10.6.3 and I get no graphics driver (nVidia 9600 GT). I tried to install the 10.6.5 update and got a KP. Also tried using ##### before trying the update to get a video kext working which also resulted in a KP?

Be careful there are different versions and the original. Its in my signature thats the one with the 889 and the lan. the newer revisions are not the same and look completely different as well.

EVGA and the correct board you have?

The original all most 3 years ago

http://www.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?...Family&sw=5

EVGA X58 Classified3 PART NUMBER: 141-GT-E770-A1

That is the second board listed in your first link above. It is also described as having a ALC889 controller in the downloadable pdf spec sheet, and it is not your original. It is true that the chip can change; my mobo with Revision 1 used Realtek 8111D for Lan while Revision 2 used Realtek 8111E: a big practical difference. I think the only other likely possibility is ALC889a.

Yeah, yours is definetely 889 but going for protocol6v his might be different. Also using the DSDT from another version and BIOS also can lead to the system being unstable.

I'm running the BIOS that matches the DSDT and all power management is working. OSX 10.6.6 has no issues.

I believe you can also check kext.com for an audio enabler that requires no DSDT edit. This is for the 889 888 889a as far I'm aware. Using audio kext from 10.6.2 works the best + digital optical works using those kexts. Funny side note my apple magic trackpad works with Windows 7 as of recent. And one version of SL had my bluetooth apple keyboard OS selection working in Chameleon although that could of been the version of Chameleon that was out then. I don't use sleep because of the bluetooth dongle, it won't wake. Miner stuff but working around it isn't a big deal.
