iMatt84
I have a Gateway SX2800-07 and took a gamble when I formatted the hard drive the retail Snow Leapord 10.6.4, updating to 10.6.6 Gateway Specs: http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668414.php ---------Solved Issues---------- Wifi - Big issue for most Hackintosh users considering that I don't have a 50ft cable for ethernet! Step 1: I found that this wireless external antenna is both MAC, PC and LINUX compatible: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003XNYLVK/ref=oss_product Step 2: Download and install something called "Ralink Wireless Utitlity" and intsall the 10.6 version for 32-bit or 64-bit. Browsers Crashing: Safari and Firefox kept freezing and crashes when going on verious sites including Hulu, Youtube etc. Solution: OPERA - I downloaded Opera and it works flawlessly on every site, also don't forget to download Microsoft Silverlight if you're using Netflix! ------------Unsolved Issues----------------- Alternative Boot: I installed OSX using ##### and discovered that ##### does nothing but disable your usb ports and sound... So regardless I just use ##### CD to boot up my computer which isn't THAT big of a deal. Good security if someone wants to get in your computer.. they can't without an ##### Disc lol Preview doesn't display images I get an error when playing DVDS, message: There was an internalization error A valid video device could not be found for playback. [-70017) VLC media player doesn't show video, just black screen The errors above COULD be related to being limited to 1024x768 and not having QC/QE enabled which has caused programs such as Final Cut not to work and I can't play Half Life 2. I have tried obtaining and installing the proper kext for my card (Sapphire Ati Radeon HD 4650 512mb card) but I find myself looking at a scrambled white screen or getting a kernel panic... I have a low profile PC so I don't have options of getting a new card without going out and buying an whole new PC. I HATE having 4:3 on a 16:9 monitor! dothacker
Actually, QE/CI has a lot to do with your image/video problems. Like some graphics card / chipset... there's no workaround for it other than getting another card. emitflesti
Hey, Matt. How well does the wifi unit work? Have you used it on anything other than OS X? ef Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/243598-1066-post-installation-experience-and-tips/#findComment-1623561 Share on other sites
Gringo Vermelho
Going by the comments on Amazon it seems 50/50. Better buy three or four of them. v_g
Just install 10.6.6 combo. Blue screen, no mouse (Graphic Adapter: nVidia GeForce 7600 GS) So, i decide to replace some kexts from 10.6.1 and got display working: GeForce 1.6.2.35 (18.6.5f11) GeForce7xxxGLDriver 1.6.2.35 (18.6.5f11) GeForce8xxxGLDriver 1.6.2.35 (18.6.5f11) GeForceGA 1.6.2.35 (18.6.5f11) GeForceVADriver 1.6.2.35 (18.6.5f11) But i can't get "translucent menu bar" working. May be you know how to fix it. [..I didn't keep any graphics\video kexts on Chameleon boot volume (external flash drive) like NVInject...] Screenshots: Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/243598-1066-post-installation-experience-and-tips/#findComment-1623630 Share on other sites
iMatt84
I figured that the video/image problem is an issue with the graphics card. Unfortunately my gateway is a low profile and took months to find a low profile card where I didn't have to order a specially made powerbox from gateway or worry about fitting a card in a little to no room for a graphics card. I'm {censored} outta luck unless I can get the QC/QE enabled... people on youtube will have the exact specs and you do it yourself only to find a kernal panic The wifi works great, install the ralink utility first and plug it in, the blue light should blink I've been able to update osx withing 10 min of downloading, actually the range on it is far better than most wifi... it works well on PC with no installation Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/243598-1066-post-installation-experience-and-tips/#findComment-1623703 Share on other sites

Gringo Vermelho
Just install 10.6.6 combo. Blue screen, no mouse (Graphic Adapter: nVidia GeForce 7600 GS) You must boot boot in 32-bit kernel and drivers mode, there is no full 64-bit driver for the 7x00 series since 10.6.2.
