trouble booting iDeneb v1.6 on Dell dimension 4700

when booting in verbos I'm getting hung up at the line.

still waiting for root device.

 

I suppose that it has something to do with the chip-set or USB setups.

I have the 3GHz model.

 

I usually leave the default options selected. However I have tried it with and without them selected.

 

I've looked around the net and haven't stumbled upon any other postings regarding this issue on this system. I'm going to try different distributions to see it it will at least work. However i need 10.5.8 for logic studio 9.

Ok, you are presenting a prime example of doing it wrong. First off, you're trying to "just install quickly" in order to run an Apple Pro app. This won't happen.. join-the-dots distro installation leaves you with insufficient knowledge of os x to actually run the OS successfully.

 

Hackintoshing is a major computing task in its own right, not like installing linux or windows, so reconsider whether you are willing to expend the time & energy to learn in-depth what is needed to run an OS that is not only unsupported on your hardware, but specifically engineered not to work for you.

 

If you are, start by searching & reading a lot, learn what components are in your hardware, how best to make them work, and proceed systematically until you have a solid install, all the patches and modifications of which you know and are comfortable with manipulating...

 

Otherwise, just get a mac, it will save you much frustration.

 

Basically, you can pay with your money for a Mac, or with your time, effort, skill and intelligence for a setup that will work well and give you many hours of satisfaction. There is no free ride.

What Hagar said is totally true, and I couldn't agree more. But, as I'm still feeling a lot enthusiastic about my success with OS X installations lately, I will try to help you because my pain is still quite fresh

 

As Hagar said - read up on basic guides on this forum and all over the net.

 

You will notice that everyone suggests to have AHCI mode turned on, although on some motherboards like P5KPL SE (not the KPL-AM SE) you don't even have AHCI mode to turn on in the BIOS, but I could still install and boot from it :S weird huh?

 

Also, ACPI 2.0 support is necessary. Legacy USB enabled is one of the requirements, as well as memory remapping feature if you use 4GB or more RAM memory.

 

So, you see, there are a lot of tiny things that need to be taken into account before even thinking something went terribly wrong. OS X is an OS that requires such settings because that's how it's coded to respond.

 

Also, installing one wrong kext may result in kernel panic and you might think it's never going to work. It has happened to me on a few occasions and I managed to fix it. How? I read on the forums like crazy and I read my verbose output carefully, used my previous knowledge from Linux and Windows and what not, in order to be able to figure out what could be wrong. Most of the times I would not be able to get it right straight away, but sometimes I did fix it quickly. Installing and setting up a hackintosh to work 100% is usually quite HARD, sometimes REALLY HARD, and on rare occasions not so hard (but that goes for experienced people anyway, with targeted HARDWARE). It's a bumpy ride, but the resulting satisfaction is orgasmic

 

Now, you haven't even specified if this error occurs when booting into installation, or booting AFTER installation! Which one is it?

Sorry. This error occurs on first boot after installation. Now that i'm thinking about it there was somthing printed further back that was catching my interest.

 

 

I have succeeded in instaling this distrubution on a dell deminsion 3000.

I've figured out my problem. It's the Nvidia 7300 GT 512MB. I'm not sure if it is because Chameleon detected it as a 256MB card. I believe in order to get it to work I would have to rewrite the bios myself. http://themacelite.wikidot.com/nvidia-fcode-rom-editing

 

I downgraded to an 7200 256MB and it works. However using Nvidia inject Mac OS doesn't save my screen resolutions and refresh rates on the next boot.

 

On the next install i'm going to try putting the EFI string in the boot playlist using OSX86 Tools. Hopefully that will solve my problem.
