neil43
I think that you need be aware of the world around you. At this moment, only 46 people have viewed your thread and I responded. From my experience the nVidia 8xxx and 9xxx series cards work well and are easy to install when using vanilla install of Snow Leopard using common install guides. If you want a recommendation, I would advise using TonyMacX86 ##### and #####. neil
IrishEyes
I've not been able to get the 8400GS to work, despite many hours of effort. It works in basic SVGA but when I enable graphics (GraphicsENabler=yes) or use NVinject I just get a black screen, I can get at file shares but cannot screen share. I've pretty much given up. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1487065

Gen0
Dunno where MaLd0n went, but yes that would be a 9500GT. Seems a bit too gamer for what your looking for. You just want a card with QE/CI as Logic 9 needs it to install. I recommend the 8400GS or 9400GT but its really a bad time to ask in the osx86 world as the newest snow leopards keep faffing around with QE/CI support. Take me for example, I bought a 7300GT, which was the card on many genuine macs of old. It ran Logic on leopard fine, but I cant even install logic on snow atm because I have a 10.6.2 retail disk and 10.6.2 has the gremlins with 7 series cards, even though that's the same model that's in a mac! IrishEyes
Finally got the 8400GS working! I found this on another forum: "i have this card working on my system, with full graphics. first, i used NVEnabler64.kext for snow leopard (google @ kexts.com if u dont find it) then, i deleted the nvenabler kext, reparired the permissions. right click on osx86tools.app (if u dont have it, google)> show package contents> resources> u will find a nvidia 8400gs 512 me hex file. open it using text edit, copy the contents. (or u could do it the wasy way, which wasnt available to me) open ur com.apple.boot.plist, and insert it somewhere it between- it should have a </string> line above, <key> line below. <key>device-properties</key> <string>*paste that hex file contents here*</string> that must work. it did work for me!" And it worked for me too! No I need to get my audio running...

PGHammer
An drop dead easy card to bring up in a hack is a GeForce 8400 GS and has support. These are available from several manufactures and are relatively inexpensive. Good performance in everything but intensive graphics. neil I'm leaning toward (don't laugh) the GT430. A bit better performance in intensive graphics (it's a descendant of Fermi), includes 1 GB of onboard RAM, uses no external power, and is priced just above the 8400GS. (For me, the deal-closer is the non-use of external power; because I do a complete shutdown and restart when switching between Windows and OS X (audio dictates the shutdown, as I have an X-Fi XtremeGamer that isn't supported in SL), swapping graphics cards is no real big thing, as long as I don't have to play Musical Molexes.) I have not used an nV DX11-based GPU before (my HD5450 supports DX11) and I am used to AMD graphical horsepower (and having to completely clean out Windows is not something I want to do, now that I have it how I like it), therefore, I have no plans on using the GT430 in the Windows side of things. safwanc
I was in a similar position recently, I just wanted a card that I could plug in and boot up without having to worry about trying to get it up and running. i also wanted something that would work for basic day-to-day use without lagging (so QE/CI working). I picked up an EVGA GT 240 for a pretty good price, plugged it in and it works on 10.6.4 with simply 'GraphicsEnabler=Yes'.
