After rebooting from the graphics update (Snow Leopard Graphics Update) I was met with a corrupted screen. Has anyone else run into this? The update introduces a new version of ATI4800.kext - so I thought just adding my devid (0x94421002) would squash this but no avail.

I tried importing the pre-gfxupdate version of ATI4800.kext (6.1.16) with dev-id and a backup of IOPCIFamily.kext, thinking that would fix it but THAT doesnt work either!

Has anyone had to deal with this? what else does the gfx update modify?

in 10.6.4 I was running 10.6.4 kexts with dev id inserted, modified IOPCIFamily.kext, and EVOEnabler in my E/E folder.

Any Ideas? HELP!

HD4850 VisionTek

LegacyATI4800Controller.kext.zip

IOPCIFamily.kext.zip

Use this to install kext that I posted

This for SL 10.6.4 and latest Apple driver graphics update. And latest flavors of Chameleon (PC-EFI 10.6) or in my case

Chameleon 2 RC5_pre8.pkg with com.apple.Boot.plist with

<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>

<string>Yes</string>

No, need to change or touch any of the native Apple kexts for the graphics. This is working on my card a VisionTek HD4850

You need to also use the DVI to VGA adapter in the port furthest from the motherboard. I am using DVI out on the first port with the vga adapter in the other with nothing connected to it. This method is only for 10.6.4 and its unaffected with update for graphics.

Works for me and even dual monitors with DVI & DVI but just might work on your HD4850 cross your fingers

Oh boot in safemode with vga and you can atleast get in to adjust and install kext... vga works in safemode!

I got it working a lot of ways but this is by far the cleanest.

Use this to wrap it up ... just for repairing permissions and building new mkext clearing cache too

I updated the SL Graphics Update 1.0 on a Gigabyte ATI 4850 and Gigabyte X48 DS5 Motherboard and it just booted into a messed up screen.

To get things working I installed an old version (i think 10.6.2) ATIFrameBuffer, ATI4800Controller and ATI Support kext.

Works fine now, but I don't know if this was the ideal way of doing this.

I would like to know a couple of things.

1. Can someone post the origional/vanilla ATI4800Controller, ATIFrameBuffer and ATISupport kexts

2. If i download this LegacyATIController kext and IOPCIFamily.kext do I install them to my System/Library/Extensions folder or put them in my Chameleons Extra/Extensions folder?

I'm wondering if doing this might be a cleaner way of doing things specially because by rolling the kexts back like I did i feel i might have "counter acted" the update.

Thanks for the help.
