Dapper Dan
I have a 3ghz Pentium 4 530 HT and its working fine under osx, but for some reason on the About tab it shows my proc at 3.6ghz. I also don't see SSE3 but i know my cpu is sse3. Any ideas? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/22125-osx-showing-wrong-processor/ Share on other sites
sandmanfvrga
I have read about this. I think the newer chips and SSE3 make OSX see it differently. My P4 2.2 GHZ shows up as is and only has SSE2. asap18
Thats normal for some people. Some Pentium D's show up at 4 ghz. Its not overclocking or anything. For the SSE3 problem did you select the sse3 option when installing? DannyBoye
Re-run your setup, when you get to the options screen in the install, everything that you have already installed will be greyed out. Everything that you dident install will be available to select, you should see something in there for sse3. BTW, search the boards for info about sse sse2 ss, because its coming to alot of peoples attention that the ss is in fact sse3 support but not displaying right. Milone
Hi, I think that the problem isn't the right SSE installation. I noticed that with 10.4.3 I was able to see in my system profiler SSE3 and the right frequency (2.80 dual core). Using the Jas 10.4.6 Hotiso and upgrading to 10.4.7 as well I can see just sse, sse2 and ss and my Sys profiler shows 3.80 dual core).... MasterBeta
My P4 SSE2 2.67 GHz shows up as just a 2.4 GHz. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/22125-osx-showing-wrong-processor/#findComment-147491 Share on other sites
Colonel
I think the problem is that OS X thinks that you're processor is the same as the ones in the developer kits. Those were 3.6 GHz Pentium 4s. Since your processors are so similar, OS X might just be getting confused Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/22125-osx-showing-wrong-processor/#findComment-147507 Share on other sites
Elysian
my opteron 170@2.75ghz shows up at 3.0ghz when i boot osx natively, but when i run it in vmware it shows correctly, as 2.75ghz... really odd... Superhai
It thinks that your running frequency is the same as the cpu reported max frequency. I believe it is because the cpuid data is different on the core duos. gwprod12
SS isnt SSE3. I have SS, SSE, SSE2, and SSE3. I think most everyone does. SS means "Self-Snoop". It doesnt mean "SSE3" Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/22125-osx-showing-wrong-processor/#findComment-147783 Share on other sites
