Detosx
At last, a new Mac Mini! The specification might be relatively modest, no quad core CPU, and the price not recession-friendly - £649/$699 - but look at that thing, will you! Apple, yet again, exceed my expectations for aesthetic beauty in an age beset, even now, by usually and unusually ugly computer cases. The spec is 2.4GHz or 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 3MB on-chip shared L2 cache, 1066MHz frontside bus, 2GB (2 x 1GB SO-DIMMs 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM; two slots supporting up to 8GB!!), a welcome NVIDIA GeForce 320M Graphics Card, a very welcome HDMI port and Mini DisplayPort and - no more putty knives to open your Mac Mini - a hugely welcome removable bottom panel. The power supply, which they have somehow managed to make internal rather than the old extermal brick, has been reduced from the old 110W to 85W, chipping away at those utility bills. A FireWire 800 port! Four USB 2.0 ports and even... an SD card slot! If only they bundled the thing with Final Cut Express, I'd be happy! But the thing that blows me away - the gorgeous 1.4" thick 'Unibody' enclosure! Height 1.4 inches (3.6 cm), width 7.7 inches (19.7 cm) and depth 7.7 inches (19.7 cm), weighing in at 3.0 pounds (1.37 kg). I love my Mini, hope this one is as quiet. Time to break the piggy bank! Nice - but no eSata and a big boost in price. SD slot should be in front if you ask me. None for me thanks. But very nice design. Apple seems to be living on another planet pricewise but it works for them. Apple seems to be living on another planet pricewise but it works for them. I always thought the Mini would be Apple's next big thing; if they had hammered down on price, upped the spec and connectivity I think it would have flown off the shelves in mind-boggling numbers. What's exciting about the new Mini is, in my opinion, presumably the quiet (my Mini is inaudible most of the time) the Apple operating system, the connectivity and its functionality to do double time as a computer and home media hub. All told, a large part of a Mac is about efficiency of function and the design aesthetic, which I think used to be hard to put a price on but that Apple resolutely stuck to that business model and, as you say, made it a success. MilanMac
if they had hammered down on price, upped the spec and connectivity I think it would have flown off the shelves in mind-boggling numbers. It's already doing that. I agree that eSata would have been nice. I'll still be getting one though Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/221228-the-new-mac-mini/#findComment-1493163 Share on other sites
Detosx
I think if Apple had sold this incarnation with a blu-ray reader and a blu-ray writer option, people, by which I mean those with the pockets for it, would be queuing around the corner. Heck, tent cities would spring up around the Apple stores.
