sirbow2
this is my situation: i have use a boot 132 cd to boot a retail leopard dvd. it gets acpi errors and gets stuck on :buffer headers and io clusters header" error. some people said to use JAS 10.4.8 acpi kexts and it would fix it, it didnt. then some one said trying a DSDT mod. ever since i have been looking for a guide on how to use a DSDT patching program like ACPI patcher for windows or DSDTSE for mac. i have access to a real mac and access to windows, and linux im trying to install mac on. my questions: 1. where can i find a beginners guide on DSDT? 2. how do i use DSDT with a Boot 132 cd? 2a. i have heard of two options: flash your bios with a modded DSDT BIOS or use a DSDT.aml file with chameleon, (i dont have chameleon and i cant install it eaither since im using a boot 132 cd and because i haven't even got to the installation yet) 3. how do i get a bios rom the DSDT patchers can use or a DSDT dump the programs can use? 4. I have a dell does this make a difference?(the closed bios with few options.)
Frogburn959
what dell hardware are you using, I.E Model and what are the specs? CPU type, chipset etc... I would read this link: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=189272 to get help with creating a DSDT file and these are some really good threads for detailed info on DSDT making DSDT fixes for Gigabyte boards http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=192518 DSDT - Vanilla Speedstep - Generic Scope (_PR) http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=181631 P5K PRO - Snow Leopard installation... http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=188920 as for installing Leo my favorite method is from a working Mac OS computer with target harddrive attached: Boot into a current OSX install on your PC, Kalyway, or whatever. Launch Disk Utility, and format the disk you want to install to. Name it Macintosh, and use GUID. You can name it whatever, I chose Macintosh. Insert a real Leopard install DVD or mount the DVD image. Launch the terminal, and type cd "/Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/Packages" Then type open OSInstall.mpkg Install to the drive/partition you just partitioned, customize as desired ------------------------------------------------------------------------- hope this helps

FKA
1. where can i find a beginners guide on DSDT? There isn't one .. but fassl's DSDT patcher thread would be a good place to start .. followed by koalala's ACPI patcher thread and slice's DSDT trick ... in that order: >> http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=133683 http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=142434 http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=168014 There is a lot more, on this forum and others. Use google and read what you find. 2. how do i use DSDT with a Boot 132 cd? You don't - much easyer to use say the Brazilian Hack Team's Chameleon RC3 boot132, have a working DSDT.aml on a USB stick and then at boot prompt use 'DSDT=/Volumes/YOURUSBKEY/DSDT.aml' without quotes. 2a. i have heard of two options: flash your bios with a modded DSDT BIOS or use a DSDT.aml file with chameleon, (i dont have chameleon and i cant install it eaither since im using a boot 132 cd and because i haven't even got to the installation yet) See above! 3. how do i get a bios rom the DSDT patchers can use or a DSDT dump the programs can use? If you're new to this I really do not recommend flashing your BIOS ... although you can do this with koalalas ACPI patcher ... DO NOT RECOMMEND! 4. I have a dell does this make a difference?(the closed bios with few options.) Don't know never tried a DELL but ACPI is ACPI - koalalas ACPI patcher only realy likes AWARD BIOS. Great tool but bit outdated now .. D i have a dell optiplex gx400. 2 ghz pentium 4 768mb ram ich2 -ide only riva tnt2 pro video card ya its a crappy system but i want to try anyway In that case you be better off with a distro and a hacked kernel .. Pentium 4 is not suported by 10.5 or 10.6 and so will not run vanilla kernel !!!!
