After you install Win7, Windows replaces Chameleon as your bootloader. ...

Wow... ill try to follow the post... hope i have the guts, now that everything is working darn.. but at 1024 * 768.. darn Easybcd i love it and hate it

...It is a full height card, so it can't be screwed down, but like the first post says, you can easily tape it flat with a single piece of electrical tape. Plus once you put the back cover on the laptop, the card will be solidly mounted...

IMHO i'd avoid using electrical tape for that task.

I use "masking tape" instead. It wont get woobly once it gets hot.

My five cents...

Hello,

I found this tutorial through another one that I was following that's a little more tailored to my specific system (ASUS G51Jx-A1). I had Mac OS X 10.6 installed on the system and was trying to configure the boot, but I can't seem to get it working. Every time I would try to boot, I would get the Mac OS loading screen, and then my computer would just reboot. If I left it it would continuously do this. I tried booting with the "GraphicsEnabler=No" flag, but it didn't seem to make any difference at all.

I tried to add "GraphicsEnabler" and "system-type" to com.apple.Boot.plist but I'm not sure I did it properally. I also added MacBookPro6,1 to the smbios.plist and again, I'm not sure I did it right.

Now, even when I try to boot into OS X through my Nawcom bootcd, it returns with a kernel panic.

I'm going to start from the beginning again, but I'm still a little confused about what happened when I tried to boot initially and the system kept rebooting. Are there any tips any of you could give me?

EDIT: I repaired the kernel panic and am now back where I started: Unable to successfully boot into OS X without the disc. when I tried to boot with GraphicsEnabler=No -x -v -f I got the followed at the end of the code right before "Press any key...."

Failed to read boot sector from BIOS device 100h. Error=1
No SMBIOS replacement found.
Patched DMI Table.
Loaded HFS+ file: [DSDT.aml] 63209 bytes from 4239800.
Starting Darwin x86
Press any key to continue...

When I hit any key, nothing... just reboots right away.

I'm very frustrated, and I would like to get this working... what am I doing wrong?

i got the installation all right and its working great.

Lately I've been plagued with Kernel Panics, occurring after random uptimes. Somethimes i would run all night, sometims panic just after boot. Here is the log:

This isn't exactly from my system, but I copied it off someone experiencing similar problems.

I tried removing the IONetworkingFamily.kext, but it disables the internet.

How do i fix this one? Its really getting very frequent!!

Is there anyone having problem with installing MBP update V1.3?

I can't install the update, although I followed all the instructions of this guide, i.e. change the smbios.plist and systemversion.plist. However, i can install the combo update.

I have checked the system info from Mac, which indicates my laptop is "Mac Pro 2,1", although I set it to MacBookPro 6,1 in smbios.plist.

Do you any solutions for that?

Thanks!

I am having a problem with my Aetheros 9382 Wifi adapter.

I have attempted many times to connect to my home network with my internal WiFi adapter, and although I can see my wireless network, and "connect" to it, Network Preferences show that the adapter is using a "Self-assigned IP" and has no internet access. I have attempted to configure the connection manually by assigning an IP address, the router address, and the DNS servers, and though it will say 'Connected' I still cannot access the internet. I'm currently using a RealTEK chipset USB dongle and it works perfectly, but I'd like to be able to run OS X and connect to the net wireless without it...

Is anyone else having this problem? My wireless network setup is WPA2-PSK AES, and there are numerous other computers connected to it so if I can fix it without changing the security structure of the network this would be preferable...

I have also already reset all of the network devices.... The problem is definitely on my side.

Any help is appreciated

I updated OSX to 10.6.4 and couldn't get the OS to recognize the graphics card, even after further software update. The chipset is "unknown" and the rest of the details follow:

Chipset Model: Unknown

Type: GPU

Bus: PCIe

Slot: Slot-1

PCIe Lane Width: x16

VRAM (Total): 1024 MB

Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)

Device ID: 0x0cb1

Revision ID: 0x00a2

ROM Revision: xx.xx.xx - internal

Also, I have the X5 model, which has an i7 processor, so the Hardware overview is also inaccurate, how would you fix that? I could change processor speed through SMBios, but that's about it.

Model Name: MacBook Pro

Model Identifier: MacBookPro6,2

Processor Name: Intel Core i5

Processor Speed: 1.6 GHz

i'm pretty sure i replied to you in the g51jx thread, see here if it's not the same person:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1550779

i'm not 100% sure the g60jx uses the same functions as the g51jx but seeing as the manual for the g51jx says it is also for the g60jx and seeing as they both share a lot of the same hardware, i wanted to let you guys know of a new kext which adds some functions.

basically, check my post here:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1550670

it adds some of the missing fn key functions like volume and playback controls for itunes.

enjoy

I'm on my last step to having a fully operational Hackintosh.... I am having a problem getting my integrated wireless adapter working... I've downloaded the respective kext for our adapter, and when I check kextstat in terminal the kext IS running; the problem lies with the fact that I can't see any wireless networks.

I'm not sure what's going on. My wireless adapter is the correct adapter (Aetheros 9285 chipset)

Any help is appreciated

Woohoo Atheros Wifi is working for me as well! There are many kexts floating around that all enable the card but I was struggling with the issue where you can see the networks, connect to them, but can't get to the internet.

It turns out that either the card or driver is lacking support for WPA2-PSK security. I realized that I could connect to unsecured wireless points with no problem, but my home router was a no-go until I changed it to WPA-PSK.

If you're having this problem as well, you obviously can't ask the coffee shop to change their router security, but at least you can get things working on your home router.

wpa-psk and aes work for me with the kext from 10.6.5

here is a copy of that kext:

http://www.mediafire.com/?mgj74e8t4yzylu2

I've also got a few other things i'd liek to add, working with meklort, i've been able to get a 64 bit version of his ps2 kexts, here they are:

http://www.mediafire.com/?mgj74e8t4yzylu2

install both kexts in /Extra/Extensions/ (or /S/L/E if you really want)

put the prefpane in /Library/PreferencePanes/

put the launch agent in /Library/LaunchAgents/

it will SAY it's 32 bit (the prefpane) but that's just because it's a 32 bit prefpane, the kexts themselves are the 64 bit versions of appleps2 by meklort and work with the old prefpane.

lastly, if you haven't gotten it yet, this is a copy of the asus hot key kext. this adds volume controls and itunes playback controlls

(fn+f10 = mute

fn+f11 = volume down

fn+f12 = volume up

fn + arrow keys = itunes playback

fn + number pad ENTER = open calculator)

I guess I'm the only one for whom the WiFi kexts don't seem to work. This is all that system profiler shows:

Software Versions:

Menu Extra: 6.2.1 (621.1)

configd plug-in: 6.2.3 (623.1)

System Profiler: 6.0 (600.9)

Network Preference: 6.2.1 (621.1)

AirPort Utility: 5.5.1 (551.19)

IO80211 Family: 3.1.2 (312)

EDIT:

I just checked kextstat and the kext isn't loading. I tried loading it from terminal, but it went of again and didn't work. I tried in 32 bit as well as 64 bit mode. Please help.

i don't know what to tell ya bro.

I run mine from /Extra/Extensions/

if you have this directory do this:

place the kext in entire IO80211Family.kext i uploaded in your /Extra/Extensions/ directory

then do the following terminal commands as root (to get root do sudo -s)

chown -R 0:0 /Extra/Extensions/
kextcache -m /Extra/Extensions.mkext /Extra/Extensions/

dont' worry about any dependency warnings you see, these are normal.

reboot.

provided you DO have the atheros 9285 wifi card, this will work, unless yours is simply broklen.

(this assumes you boot with a semi recent chameleon)

you should see THIS in kextstat:

   40	0 0xffffff7f807e2000 0xcc000	0xcc000	com.apple.driver.AirPort.Atheros21 (424.14.5) <39 35 9 7 5 4 3 1>

if this DOESNT work, then install lspci from here:

http://osx86.sojugarden.com/2009/10/lspci-...r-1-0-released/

and then post the output of:

sudo lspci -nn

Wow, I can't believe this thread is still alive and active (and has as many views as it does!); I guess this is a popular laptop...

Apologies for (seemingly) abandoning this thread; Invision is massive fail - it stopped sending me email notices of thread replies, and that's what I was relying on to keep me updated.

Kudos to those who've stepped up, in the best open source fashion, to help out others, particularly Cknoblet and wonslung (also, big thanks to the guys in the G51J/Jx thread; seems like there's a lot of "cross-pollination" going on here).

I'll be trying out all the new stuff posted since the last time I read this thread (July!) and updating the guide as appropriate, where 'appropriate' is defined as "works for me" ;).

Welcome back Quaestor! You've started a revolution!

Gravicle, you might check to make sure your WIFI killswitch is set to the ON position. If that doesn't help, you might open your laptop up and reseat the card, or just boot into Windows 7 and see if the card is alive.

hehe, yah, i actually own a g51jx myself. one thing which has been brought to my attention in the other thread is:

the current AsusHoyKeys.kext is breaking keyboard backlight dimming. meklort is working on a fix for this but an easy work around is to disable the return call in DSDT for the keys.

To do this search out:

(_Q0D and (_Q0C

then remove the first "Return (Zero)" you see. in otherwords, this is the before:

		Method (_Q0C, 0, NotSerialized)
	{
		If (ATKP)
		{
			^^^^ATKD.NTFY (0xC5)
			Return (Zero)
		}

and this is the after:

	   Method (_Q0C, 0, NotSerialized)
	{
		If (ATKP)
		{
			^^^^ATKD.NTFY (0xC5)
		}

do this for BOTH Q0D and Q0C methods and you'll be fine. This is only a work around and will eventually be fixed in the kext. I also hope to add the normal dim/brightness osx screen stuff when you dim/brighten the screen.

Since the g51 and g60 use the same motherboard, everything that works for one works for the other, not counting video, and i7 specifics vs i5.

The Asuskeys kext is great! I was using a 3rd party tool called Proxi to set my hotkeys, but I'd much rather have the real keys function as they should. That's one less hack that I have to use, so goodbye Proxi and thanks but I found something better!

yes, meklort is amazing. I'm working with him to try to get more functions added. Eventually we plan to get the "trackpad disable" key working (though it will probably only work with his version of appleps2, the reason is that this hack si going to require some special coding)

so i could use ideas/suggestions for:

fn+ space

fn+c

fn+v

and the three instant keys up top.

I'd also like the calculator function to bring the calculator forward instead of just openning it but some of this stuff isn't exactly easy.

We also have the idea of perhaps making a prefpane which would allow the user to set/change some of the keys, and of course we need to fix a couple issues.

those issues are:

when you use screen dimming, it should show the mac image for "screen is dimming" (currently this only shows up if you dim it ALL the way)

it should do the same thing for when you brighten it. This issue will require making the kext work with osx's native screen brightness kext or add functions which replace it

We need to fix the keyboar dim/brighten option. Right now the dsdt work around isn't the best solution. It doesn't HURT anything but ideally we'd like the kext to "just work"

also, i wouldn't mind getting the wifi on/off function working in a way that lets osx know (currently this function works but osx doesn't know it's happening, for instance if you hit fn+f2 it will change wireless/bluetooth on/off but osx doesn't know, and it just causes the os to keep trying to reconnect. I'm not sure if this can be fixed but ideally when you did this, it would cycle through the options letting osx know so the wifi on/off in the top bar would reflect the proper settings (and also the front panel lights)

this might be difficult though, it seems this button has 4 "states"

1: wifi on/bluetooth on

2: wifi off/bluetooth off

3: wifi on/bluetooth off

4: wifi off/bluetooth on

anyways, that's where we stand with this kext at the time being....now, as far as other stuff goes, i really wish we could get a better version of VoodooHDA. Even with the prefpane the volume is way too low in my opinion.

We also need to get the card reader working. I'm not sure what is going on here with that, but i'm working on it.

I have attempted to get my wifi adapter working a number of times. this is the result of kextstat:

72	0 0x81386000 0xcc000	0xcb000	com.apple.driver.AirPort.Atheros21 (424.14.5) <71 69 14 7 5 4 3 1>

OS X even recognizes an AirPort device, but can't see or connect to any networks at my school. At home, OS X recognizes my home network, and even connects but cannot access the internet (Says there is no assigned IP address.) I have attempted many things, including manually assigning the IP addresses, re-installing the drivers, and changing from a 32bit boot to the 64bit..

Incidentally, I am running a 32bit kernel, and when I tried to boot in 64bit previously, I get a kernel panic from the REALTEK drivers I have installed for a USB Dongle I've been using for WiFi. I can think of a few options, like removing the REALTEK drive that was causing panic, but I'm not sure how to do that!

I have to say I'm a little jealous of those who have already got a fully functoning Hackintosh. Any help is appreciated!

As I've said in other posts, there seems to be a problem with certain security algorithms. See if you home network is set for WPA2-PSK, it probably is, and that is not working for me.

Setting it to WPA-PSK will make it so it works. Or better yet, try setting your router to be unsecured for a few mins and see if you can connect. I'm betting you can.

Let us know if that fixes you.

This did fix the issue with my OS X wifi but I can't justify changing the protocols on my router. My machine would be the only one that wasn't affected by the change, and with 8+ devices connect to my home network ALONE, it seems to be to be a bit of a hassle just so I can not have a 1" dongle poking out the side of my pc.

TBH it's good to know that the wifi DOES work, and I'm hoping they'll fix the issues sometime soon. (I would hope that OS X supports WPA2-PSK)

@Wonslung:

I would suggest that all of these hotkeys be user defined. Even if it's a plist edit within the kext. Since the windows functions of those keys, and the lit hotkeys up by the display have no exact counterpart, why not just leave it up to the user to define what they do?

It's awesome that you're getting this done, I really appreciate you getting Meklort to help us out!

@Fragment137:

I'm in the same boat as you, everyone else hanging off my wifi is set up for WPA2-PSK. I'm just going to have to touch every system to set them to WPA-PSK. Both algorithms allow for alpha numeric (plain english) passwords, so my users won't know the difference in the end, but I wish whatever was broken just worked as it should.

@Everybody

Ok guys, I'm tired of jumping around looking for stuff, so I've set up a G60 Hackintosh project page at:

http://code.google.com/p/g60jx-hackintosh/

There's only a couple of wiki pages so far, but there's quite a few downloads there. I intend to compile up to date information from this and the G51 thread. With the Google Code site, I will be able to maintain a one-stop shop for what's the latest.

Please let me know if you'd like your information or files taken down, but I hope you'll all agree that we need a central repository to manage the advances that are being made.

Thanks!
