cyrana
At the boot prompt you could try platform=X86PC. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/2173-disable-acpi/#findComment-14076 Share on other sites

dubhead
There are another option for disable ACPI?Thanks <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes another option is u edit the Boot.plist with Property Plist editor from the Developer Tools Pack and Add a entry platform with String either "X86PC" or "ACPI" set so it will use it all the Time. domino
Disabling ACPI and enabling platform=X86PC does things for me. 1. if I choose acpi, Mac reboots and shuts down properly and without intervention. It also gives me 2pts less in xbanch results. It also disables HT. 2. if I choose x86pc, Mac needs to be manually reset when you have to restart and you have to manually turn it off to shutdown. Gives me higher xbench results due to using HT. Conclusion: I take performance over inconvenience. briankoenig
1. if i disable acpi and enable x86pc.....2. if x86pc is enabled....... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Aren't both 1 and 2 the same? Did you enable ACPI in the second example? Did you mean "disable" for number 2? Thanks for the clarification. macgirl
he miswrote things. ACPI in some PCs can do both Restart and Shutdown, also enables HT. X86PC can only restart, no shutdown, this is because X86PC is treated as older PCs when shutdown can only do with a button/switch, do you remember the windows message "You can turn off..."? domino
I'm apologize for the confusion. I corrected my mistake with color red. That's what I get for posting something and being up 20hrs. No good. Anyway, Alejandra has is correct in generally summarizing the effects of both ACPI and X86PC. However, X86PC is used on my install and Mac is not able to restart on it's own. I concluded that it has something to do with the USB things. Either drivers in Mac, or the settings in the bios. Just a minor inconvenience. Greets!
