m4778
there are a whole bunch of ways to go about doing it. Using all different distros and moded install disks. have you just googled it to see if anyone else has got it working on your particular setup? osx86 is really a trial and error kinda thing so there is no definite answer to the "how do i install" question. (tell me if i sound stupid im new and this is what ive collected after a lot of research here) welp i just went and tried to look around and found nothing. probably because its so new not many people have been able to experiment on it. i know there are a few installs that have added support for i7's so id look into those and maybe just give one a shot Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/215998-asus-g73-the-i7-gaming-laptop/#findComment-1452608 Share on other sites

GlasgowGeek
I also have a G73JH (note that there is now a JW which uses an NVIDIA GTX 460) I've only just got mine back from repair so i haven't had a chance to try and break it again yet. ;-) From what i've gathered so far, the mobile HD5870 is closer to the desktop 5770 in design than the full-fat 5870 (see eg. Toms Hardware). It might be useful info to help anyone hacking around on .kexts etc. Why can't Apple just make a decent laptop instead of all this faffing about? ikahuna
I recently ordered a G73JW-A1 (nVidia 460m) and it will arrive on the 4th of November. Until then I have busied myself with getting all the kexts and info lined out that I can so I can get the closest to fully working Hac possible as fast as possible. I did actually buy this for Windows (I own a Core i7 MB Pro and three Hacs) but the second drive will have a fully working install of Snow come Hell or high water. The 4x series cards are supported with some hacking and I actually have an EVGA GTX 470 waiting in the wings to put in my main Hac Pro when time permits a teardown, but from what I have seen, it's a device id in the proper kexts situation and it shouldn't be too different for the 460m. Or should it? If I can't get QE/CI going it's useless to do it, but I will bang at it until I do. Nice thing is I can yank the drive at any time and make mods, and even use a couple extra lappie drives I have lying around to quick change and test different things quickly. So, I was wondering if anyone has this laptop specifically and has gotten anywhere with it. For search sake, the models are..... ASUS G73JW-A1 ASUS G73JW-XA1 ASUS G73JW-XT1 I think that's it. Anyone want to work on this together just ping me. iKahuna Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/215998-asus-g73-the-i7-gaming-laptop/#findComment-1575328 Share on other sites
nomadicexploration
The Asus G73JW and G73JH are my weapons of choice too. I use 2 early 2008 MBP's and would REALLY LOVE IT if we can make the G73 run OS X. So what can I do to help? Jakes77564
I got a G73JW running SL very well! I have top resolution on graphics but only 64 CUDA cores working, USB 2.0 and 3.0 are working, WiFi works, Webcam works, Sound works- only the mic is stuck on fulltime- Only thing I can't get to work is the lighted keyboard. Other than that everything runs great! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/215998-asus-g73-the-i7-gaming-laptop/#findComment-1588252 Share on other sites
Jakes77564
Anybody worked out any new bugs on this? I have to report that I was wrong- my USB 3.0 is recognized by the OS but I can't get it to recognize a drive. I also can't get all the CUDA cores going and the backlit keyboard doesn't work. BUT, it's VERY functional compared to other laptops I've tried to do this to. ikahuna
Here's where I am at... Need sound and ENet WiFi working but am able to get the system in full res with QE/CI and graphics reporting properly in System Profiler, 460m. Really want to use the proper audio kexts and not VooDooHDA (no offense to the voodoo team) and find 64bit Atheros 9285 kext if possible but will be happy to find working 32 version too. USB 3 I need to test. Anyone got a fully functional kext pack for 10.6.5 and maybe even a DSDT they could share? Play well with others right? iKahuna Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/215998-asus-g73-the-i7-gaming-laptop/#findComment-1617412 Share on other sites
