dudenesspa
I have an nVidia Geforce 8400 GS 1024MB. I cannot get QE/CI enabled. I have tried: EFI String nvinject nvkush nvidia installer osx86tool (enable quartz) None of these have worked. I use iMovie to let me know its not enabled. Does anyone have a comprehensive step by step of how to do this? I feel like I'm missing something. Maybe other kexts make it not enable? scwhar
for me qe/ci worked on this card in 10.6 & 10.6.1 (went wrong on 10.6.2) all I had to do was type "graphicsenabler=y" at boot time, using a recent version of chameleon if that works add the following to com.apple.boot.plist and you won't have to type it every boot <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>Yes</string> Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/206109-qeci-on-nvidia-geforce-8400-gs/#findComment-1379314 Share on other sites

dudenesspa
Chameleon, just chameleon, so long as you specify graphicsenabler=y no added kext none of that, vanilla monsieur I have chameleon v2 rc3 and wrote this to my com.apple.boot.plist. Deleted all kexts for Geforce and nividia. This did not give me QE/CI. Anyone else get this to work? scwhar
You don't have to delete (or add) any kexts, just leave the original ones from vanilla install. dudenesspa
You don't have to delete (or add) any kexts, just leave the original ones from vanilla install. I GOT IT! Here is how I did it. Some steps may not be necessary but I'm putting it all in here just in case. 1. Installed OS X using rebel efi. -chose customize and selected Quicktime and Rosetta 2.Installed MyHack bootloader -got rid of annoying theme in the beginning by going to Extra/Themes/ and deleting the "Default" folder 3.Took NVDANV50HAL.kext, NVDAResman.kext, and GeForce.kext out of System/Library/Extensions and put on my desktop. Then deleted all kexts referring to nVidia except NVSMU.kext (not even sure if this has to do with nVidia) and deleted the GeForce7xxx.bundle from S/L/E, including the three I just moved. 4.Opened NVDAN50HAL.kext and opened the info.plist file. Found "<key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key>" and added my device ID as the first one, 0x042210DE&0xfff0ffff 5.I left in all other device ids underneath mine. Save. 6.Opened GeForce.kext and opened the info.plist file. Found "<key>IOPCIMatch</key>" and added my device ID as the ONLY one here <key>0x042210DE</key> Save. 7.Opened NVDAResman.kext and opened the info.plist file. Found <key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key> and added my device ID as the first one, 0x042210DE&0xfff0ffff 8.I left in all other device ids underneath mine. Save. 9.I used kexthelper to add these newly edited kexts back to the System/Library/Extensions folder 10.I deleted the extensions.mkext in Extra folder 11.Went to Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration folder and dragged the com.apple.boot.plist to my desktop. Opened it and added <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>y</string> 12.Saved file and dragged it back into the folder from whence it came and authenticated it. 13.Did the same to the com.apple.boot.plist that I found in the Extra folder. 14.Used OSX86tools - Add EFI Strings/Boot Flag, then select GFX Strings at the top left, Either find your card or scroll down to customize and follow the directions. 15.Then hit "apply changes to com.apple.boot.plist" and restart. When I rebooted, I saw the transparent finder bar and tested with iMovie and Front Row. Installed FCP with no problem! Parallels runs better! I do not claim to know what I'm doing. So some may scoff at my lack of knowledge but hey, I got it to work! Thanks to all who helped out and gave good ideas! dudenesspa
Which version of OSX? 10.6? yes, 10.6.0. Also, I'm now onto getting sleep to work. I got my bios set to s3. It appears to sleep, and when i wake it up, the computer wakes but not the monitor. Any ideas? I'm researching dsdt patches now. I have sleepenabler.kext. samhl
Hello Folks, i have tried many methods to get my MSI GeForce 8400 GS (06e4) working with full QE/CI support. use 10.5.8 on an AMD machine - and nothing works, no nvinject 0.2.1 512 (card is recognized, i can change resolutions but nor QE/CI), no nvkush, no EFI Studio modified com.apple.boot.plist NOW i installed the chameleon 2 RC4 bootloader and with GraphicsEnabler=y boot Argument the card is shown as fully supported !!! But the problem is: seems ALL on gui is accelerate. also mouse. mouse is very very fast (like warp!) and movement directions are mirrored. I searching around an trying the following: - remove AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext - boot with cpus=1 - using different kernels (anv 9.8 and voodoo 9.5) nothing solved the problem. any idea to set the movement/accelleration of mouse to normal with enabled QE/CI ? samhl
fixxed my problem with: - delete all NV* and Geforce* items from system/library/extensions (also any injector!) - fresh install of 9f23installer.pkg - reboot with Chameleon 2.0 RC4 an GraphicEnabler=y Boot Argument. the fresh install of the 9f23 drivers solves my problem. Now i get this: GeForce 8400 GS: Chipsatz-Modell: GeForce 8400 GS Typ: Monitor Bus: PCIe PCIe-Lane-Breite: x16 VRAM (gesamt): 512 MB Hersteller: NVIDIA (0x10de) Geräte-ID: 0x06e4 Versions-ID: 0x00a1 ROM-Version: xx.xx.xx - internal Monitore: Monitoranschluss: Status: Kein Monitor angeschlossen Monitor: Auflösung: 1280 x 960 @ 90 Hz Farbtiefe: 32-Bit Farbe Core Image: Hardware-unterstützt Hauptmonitor: Ja Synchronisierung: Aus Eingeschaltet: Ja Quartz Extreme: Unterstützt Rotation: Unterstützt Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/206109-qeci-on-nvidia-geforce-8400-gs/#findComment-1391204 Share on other sites
