1. Just got a HD 5850 and its great, use Kabyl's chameleon R700 and graphicsenabler=y is all you need to do, I think the same goes for 5870. Was considering a 460 but they aren't stable yet.
2. ATI 4850 - Quartz Extreme

I've had problems using legacy kext, never seems to work for me. You can try replacing that step with manually entering device ID in 4800controller.kext, "s simple guide to" in this section explains how clearly in first post I think.
3. Just make sure you get one with two DVIs and an S-video and its real easy, otherwise its a pain.
4. Sound works with applehda 10.6.2 and alc8xxhda.kext + DSDT patch Device (HDEF) { Name (_ADR, 0x001B0000) Method (_PRW, 0, NotSerialized) { Return (Package (0x02) { 0x0D, 0x05 }) } Method (_DSM, 4, NotSerialized) { Store (Package (0x04) { "layout-id", Buffer (0x04) { 0x7C, 0x03, 0x00, 0x00 }, "PinConfigurations", Buffer (Zero) {} }, Local0) DTGP (Arg0, Arg1, Arg2, Arg3, RefOf (Local0)) Return (Local0) } } } About the same as you describe VoodooHDA working, line in & out & SPDIF seems to be all thats working, latest ##### has both the kexts.
5. seems to work great with 4850 and just device ID and graphicsenabler, like 10.6.2 did, back to vanilla graphics at last
6. Hi excuse the english please! I have this R700 for a while now but couldn't share BIOS, I'm glad someone is now. If anyone wants to do retail install the kexts I'm using are: in E/E fakesmc.kext voodoobattery64.kext in S/L/E voodoohda.kext appleps2controller.kext appleacpips2nub.kext IOnetworkingfamily.kext & with swapped WIFI card, as far as I know, everything except sleep works, including vanilla stepping with latest chameleon & this messy DSDT: DSDT.zip It would be worth keeping an eye on this thread about sleep: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...235055&st=0 buona fortuna
7. Samsung R Series Notebooks

Thanks Violet7 I tried your boot file and just get black screen, also getting compile errors with your DSDT 2nd edit. So the black screen is in the goes straight to sleep and wakes back up way. Thanks anyway for your work & I'll be keeping an eye here, sleep is the only thing not working. Spacebar is hanging off though! On samsung r700, 8600m gt, t5750
8. Great news, I have TF2, L4D & CSS but hardly ever play them cos of needing to reboot, best bit is if you already have em on winders steam you can play them on OSX for free! Woopdedoo
9. 10.5.7 on an Asus P5QL/EPU

I also have a 4850 yeah, they all seem to behave differently though from what I read, and honestly I can't remember exactly what I did to get it working with 10.6.2! 10.6.1 was just alter device ID in Radeon4850.kext and use graphicsenabler=yes at boot or in apple.com.boot.plist. You could always use the bootCD but if you want to boot without CD you need to install chameleon, thats why I also uploaded the kexts, so you can use them in your /E/E folder after installing Chameleon.
10. 10.5.7 on an Asus P5QL/EPU

Hopefully you can boot into single user mode -s and delete the sleepenabler kext, which causes problems different versions needed for 10.6 and 10.6.2, then use safemode to install the right kexts for your graphics card (search this site, so many GFX cards). SU mode is text only, look up the commands you'll need. Or use macdisc in windows to delete the bad kext. Personally I would reinstall and install chameleon to a USB key or to the EFI partition then install those kexts I uploaded to your /where you installed chameleon/extra/extensions folder. This makes it easier to do updates and fix any issues you get as your hackintosh kexts and the vanilla apple ones are kept seperate. Although some kexts do have to be installed /S/L/E like you did, VoodooHDA being the main one. I think all the kexts I uploaded work from /E/E.
11. 10.5.7 on an Asus P5QL/EPU

That's right, or you can use voodoops2 kext, better to use USB KB+M though really. Stick with it!
12. 10.5.7 on an Asus P5QL/EPU

This is the point at which you would enter boot instructions (such as cpus=1, although I never found that one neccessary with 10.6) try typing "-x -v" after highlighting the DVD and before pressing return, the text you enter is in small font bottom left of the screen (-x for safe mode, -v for verbose) I don't know about EBIOS read errors, never had that. Are you on SATA DVD drive?
13. Chameleon RC4 is out!

BlackOSX R112 works great for me on ASUS, Seems faster. Memory reads BANK1/DIMM1: Size: 2 GB Type: DDR2 SDRAM Speed: 800 MHz Status: OK Manufacturer: N/A Part Number: N/A Serial Number: N/A when its 1066Mhz OCZ and Asere's booter got that and the serial number - but this doesn't matter really, fast boot much appreciated, thanks!
14. Sapphire HD 4850 Custom Resolution?

in com.apple.boot.plist <key>Graphics Mode</key> <string>1440x900x32</string>
15. Asus P5KPL-AM Issues

Also support in 10.6 much better for 4870 than in 10.5, so try snow. DVI monitor the way to go too.
