Nvidia Geforce FX Go5200 resolution problem

On my Dell Inspiron 8600, the Nvidia Geforce FX Go5200 is only usable as a VESA 3.0 compliant card. The resolution is stuck at 1024x768, and this makes it hard to read text on a 15.4" WXGA (wide screen LCD). I've tried entering "Graphics Mode"="1280x800x32" at the boot prompt, but that didn't work. Typing ?video at the boot prompt yields 1024x768 as the highest resolution. Am I doomed to spend my days on OSx86 with mediocre resolution...or is there a fix?

I checked:  http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCLPart#NVIDIA

and someone listed:

Geforce FX Go5200 - No QE, No Coreimage, Vesa 3.0 @ 1280x1024x32

Now if only I can figure out a way to get 1280x800.

Did you even read my reply? I said widescreen doesn't work... 1280x1024 is a standard VESA mode, so it works fine for most people (and is also 4:3).

I have a 1280x1024x32 working here on my desktop and the laptop. The thing is, 1600x1200 should also work because it seems to be a VESA3 supported configuration, but I have not been able to get it working after many trials. So 1280x1024 isnt so bad for now... ;)

Darn. Looks like my only hope is to wait for a OSx86 nvidia driver with some sort of framebuffer so I can change my resolution (don't need Hardware acceleration yet).

On my laptop [sony Vaio VGN-A117S, 17" widescreen], I run OSX on 1600x1200x32.

The native resolution of my display is 1920x1200, but that doesn't work.

I also tried widescreen resolutions but no luck.

I can't wait for the drivers.

BTW: graphic card - ATI Radeon 9700.

I have a GeForce7 Go4200, and ?video lists 1280x1024, 1600x1200 and a couple of more hi res settings. my problem is that this dell laptop is equipped with a crappy ass XGA display, so it can only do 1280x800 maximum, which of course is not VESA 3.0 supported. :(

When i try 1280x1024, it works, but the bottom portion of the display (where the dock is) is cut off!

Any words on graphic card driver development (either ATI or NVIDIA) yet? If we can get basic frame buffer and change resolutions then I'm set.

I have the same card and had the same problems - - you need to remember to use the big X (not the small x) - - for example "Graphics Mode"="1280X1024X32@85" will work, but if you type "Graphics Mode"="1280x1024x32@85" you wont get anything. so - remember X, not x and you will be fine.

Even though I use a widescreen display, 1280X1024 is better... but I'm still waiting for widescreen support! Also, having problems getting any use out of my graphics card --- - it seems macvidia doesnt work...

Hi folks!

I'm a fairly new at hackintosh'ing and am having some difficulty with the Inspiron 8600. Although I've had success installing and getting "basic" functionality working on the laptop with the iATKOS v5 (10.5.5) disk, the question here is how do I improve on the basic VGA output of 1024x768.

If I try to install any of the NVinject, NVkush, etc. I get "psychadelic" transformation of the desktop once the OS loads. The card in the laptop is a GeForce FX Go5200 with 32MB of VRAM. The only thing working for me is the standard VGA and even then scrolling of pages get "stuck" on the screen. Page downs seem to clear it up.

Does anyone have any input on how I can get more resolution as my screen is 1680x1050? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
