I'm about to purchase this board as well, so I'd be curious to know if there are current working solutions for snow leopard for that ethernet controller and for the ALC889 audio chip. Here are the specs from intel on audio and lan:

10-channel (7.1+ 2 independent multi-streaming) audio subsystem with five analog audio outputs and two optical S/PDIF digital audio for input and output using the Realtek * ALC889 audio codec

Intel® PRO 10/100/1000 Network Connection (82578DC)

mhm well it works with the intel82566mm.kext (add the device ID and it will show up) but not as well as I would like. most of the time it works but sometimes it doesn't: meaning: the networks says its disconnected. I have a feeling that there are some powermanagement issues. also I tried to make skype video call and that breaks off: while on my macbook pro it obviously works well (as in: its not my internet connection that is {censored}).

So its there but somehow I hope to find some ppl who know how to polish this driver into a situation in which it better than now.

ps: on my dx58so (intel core i7 920) there is less of an issue with the driver. I mean it shows up all the time correctly and there are no skype problems.

any idea who could help us...please contact me I would like this driver to be working well...bernfeld at dds dot nl.

audio is not an issue: voodoohda... and go.

Sweet! I tried this and it seemed to work - but I get no actual packets thru. I can do stuff to en0 with ifconfig and it reports the right MAC, media, etc., but no traffic.

What's weird is that when I booted back to Win7 - I had the same issue. Uh oh. I tried messing with advanced device options, but finally flashed the BIOS, which worked. I then tried in SL again, same issue. Had to flash again.

Here's what I have:

Intel DP55WB mainboard (BIOS flashed to 0165)

Intel 82578DC network (device ID 0x10F08086)

I have no idea what I'm doing other than what I picked up from you helpful folk here and Unix experience. Any suggestions on what to try next would be much appreciated!

The VoodooHDA worked great, btw! Now if only I could have net ...

I get to install SL and update to 10.6.2 via this method.... I even triple booting Win 7 on HDD 1, SL & Leo on HDD 2 all via the installed chamleon and it works like charm.... Display is thru HD4890 Vapor-x 2GB DDR5.

Issue:-

1) Display resolution stucked at 1024x768. (Resolved with "Graphics Mode"="1280x1024x32" flag)

2) Sounds ~ Not resolved yet. Which voodooHDA to use and simply drop to kext helper?

3) Ethernet ~ No kext yet

4) Network preference in Settings ~ I only have Bluetooth workings... cant even add Huawei Broadband USB Modem even i have the right kext (I said right bcoz its working on my other system with leopard installed)

5) Shutdown is ok. Not restart.... shoud i restarted it, it stucked to "Press Y for bios setup and press N to load previous bios settings"....

6) What is all about sleep? hot to tell its sleeping? when i press the sleep button, monitor still on but HDD seems like stop.... no mouse, but once i move my mouse, its like awake again. Is that sleep? or playing dead?? lols....

7) Sometimes my keyboard lost connection ~ after idling for quite sumtimes... say 15min approximately....

8) What did i missed else?

9) Owh, i cant view a photo with the photo viewer! my photo do shows ok on thumbnails but when open, its just a blank photo sheet....

Pressing the HELP button now especially on ethernet and Huawei E160e USB modem... Thanks!

NET DRIVER

intel 82578 used within P55

It's working without sleep mode but after oc intel not supoert sleep corectly so it doesn't matter

go to: AppleIntelE1000e.kext 32/64 for 10.6.

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=205771

This driver is based on Intel Wired Ethernet for Linux ( e1000.sourceforge.net ) and 82566mm OSX driver ( 82566mm-osx-drivert.googlecode.com ). As it uses ( almost as is ) Linux driver's source code, the license is GPL. The base Linux driver is e100e-1.1.2 and can work with Intel PCI Express ethernet chips like 82578 used with P55 chipset. ( I tested 82573 and 82578 only as I do not have other NICs. )

Let's start with ethernet:

This MB has Intel® 82578DC Gigabit Ethernet Controller.

Do you have any idea how to make it up & running?

Thanks in advance!

I've found GREAT booting CD image on :

Thread sleeping?

Okay. Here's tossing a pebble. Any ripples?

Have not updated my sig. but my new build is based on Intel DP55KG - core 17 860 - 8GB Corsair 1600MHZ memory, XFX 512MB 9800GT - Sony OptiArc DVD - 2X 250Gb WD HDD.

Getting ambitious I tried booting with just fakesmc only, no DSDT.aml or anything else. It works. But shutdown restart have long delay, no QE/CI, & of course no Audio or Lan.

Now I decide to get my hands dirty. So I delve into DSDT with minimal edits. Add TonyMac's 889 legacy kext, and in 10.6.4 use cartri's new AppleHDA patcher for 889. For Lan used AppleIntelE1000E.kext.

Sound has minor pops, but speakers work. Since I do not need anything else I couldn't check other sound ports. Mic is not working at all. Lan is working to connect to DSL & internet. But sometimes goes on the blink. But the system as a whole runs beautifully (Now I have QE/CI with DSDT edits) Restart & Shutdown Sleep & Wake all work fine. This I think is due to Aserebln's 1.19 bootloader.

Now the time for refinements. Any friends up for this?

WARNING : BIOS VERSIONS LATER THAN 3822 WILL PANIC ON VANILLA SPEEDSTEP USING IMAC 11,1 SMBIOS.

William Parker

Sorry for my english.

I have Intel PD55WG with i7-860. Latest BIOS 5531.

Don"t work sleep and speedstep, microfone.

I can"t boot w/o NullCPU .

You use BIOS 3822 ?

Pleas your DSDT.

Thx

My Board is DP55KG not DP55WG. So DSDT will be very different. Please boot up into 64 bit Ubuntu and extract a DSDT for you board. Then send it to me & I can try edit for you.

First of all IMO we may do away with NullCPUPowerManagement.kext because we can then use Vanilla Speedstepping with Native Turbo Boost. This way we will be using the full potential of P55 with i7-860. Moreover Sleep comes with it automatically. But there's a problem with this approach in DP55KG board. Any BIOS later than 3822 will not work with Vanilla SpeedStep. Major compromise in switching to 3822 BIOS is ability to switch off the on board Bluetooth. If you need I will attach my DSDT tomorrow. It is extracted from 5531 Bios but runs nicely with 3822 BIOS too. It has minimal mods & works great for me. Of course I must warn you that my 9800GT code is injected in it & will not work for any other Graphics Card put in any other Slot except the one closest to the CPU. If you need a Mod for your card send me the details & I will do it for you.

-Cheers ;-)

Hi all.

I have a DP55KG , i7 860, 8 GB Ram , 2 HDD, 4 DVDs, videos used NVidia GT9500, NVidia gt220, nvidia gt210, nvidia gts 8600.

Voodoohda depends on video card. If video has HDMI (Gt 210, Gt220) i used a patched Voodoohda.kext that makes it

work and also mic. If video does not have HDMI (Gts8600 GT 9500), voodoohda.kext works fine but need to mod it to have the MIC working.

Video work with EFI GFX strings: GTS 8600, GT220/GT210 with a modded device properties. I have actually installed 2 video cards, all 5 outlets , 2 dvi, 2 vga and one hdmi work QE/CI. EFIStudio tool.

Bluetooth works out of the box.

Built in LAN works with AppleE1000e.kext. Also installed 2 RTL8139 and rtl 8169 lan.

Sleep, restart and shutdown works. 32 and 64 bits 10.6.4 updated 100%.

Vanilla install with required to boot is NullCPUPowerManagement.kext and Fakesmc.kext . DO NOT put sleepenabler.kext unless its the latest version.

Any help you need let me know.

@RSN

Why do you think we need a CPUPM disabler? From what I have gathered, it appears any P55 mobo will run Native PM if it gets recognized as iMac 11,1. Following this I have discovered that on DP55KG Bios versions later than 3822 cause KP if Native PM is used.

Please correct me if I am wrong. I choose to keep things as vanilla as possible. Of course you may choose differently. But I sure would like to know. Non-vanilla it is, if it gets things done more efficiently.

Thanks.

PS: Does your Auto sleep work?

@William Parker.

I dont know why but I guess its the DSDT configuration set up. Im familiar with DSDT but not to the degree of knowing what exactly it is. I didnt know about iMac 11,1 but Im giving it a try tonight and report back (i have tow installations).

Yes my auto sleep works.

@William Parker

Hey William, I've got the DP55SB. i7-860. 9800 GT. Pretty close to you.

So, I should bump down to 3822 for vanilla speedstepping?

also, since you've already got yours all set up, think your DSDT would work for me?

DP55SB identical except 2 less internal satas and 1 less esata. I think everything else is the same.

Thanks!
