hey guys I have ipc 10.5.6 and I'm tried to install it on a acer aspire 5590, the problem is i have no operating system on it, so I don't know the specs and I can't find any specs on this computer, all I really know is that its a dual core, x1650 video card i believe or x1250, I tried installing ipc with just a few things selected but when I try to boot ipc it shows the apple screen then it shows all these lines all over my screen then a black screen. Can somebody tell me what I should select during the installing, which kernals etc.. if anybody can find the specs on my laptop that be great. And finally is my drive supossed to be erased as a extended mac journaled?

How could possible some one help you, when you don't know what hardware you have? Download some Linux live CD and get some info on hardware, when post it. As well you could check the BIOS for some info. e.g. CPU, VGA, Sound, disk controllers...

I understand what your saying.. I don't have any information to help you guys out I more needed to know how I could find out information, will my bios display the proper information. I don't need to know the audio tell after? Also I tried all of the ATI video cards, but everytime I try to boot os x i just get the apple logo and its loading then it goes to a whole bunch of lines then a black screen. What information do I need to find out and how do I find out this information.. I really don't feel like wasting another cd on linux.

Try this: fire up your BIOS, and check for anything like "System Info" or specifications. You'll see some specs there. And when your OS X DVD Boots, press F8 then -v and if it stops anywhere let us know.

I tried that -v thing and it just showed all the lines then it showed the apple logo then same thing whole bunch of lines, okay well I'm downloading ubuntu and I'll put it on my flash drive and boot up ubuntu, where on ubuntu would I go for specs, I have not done linux in a long time

If everybody used google we would not have threads, posts.. etc, thats why forums are made.. all google will do is most likely send me to another forum which may give me an answer, but really.. and I'm trying to rush since I don't have an operating system. And I checked out the links you sent me but what information do you need to know so that you can tell me what to check off in the installation. I think you need to know mother board right? So where would that be, etc.

Thanks again, sorry if I sound demanding, but I've posted threads on here and they have sometimes never gotten responses, yesterday I asked a simple question if I could and how to burn ipc to a flash drive, and never got a response. I then used google.

MB, Chipset, Disk drives controllers (both IDE and SATA), VGA card, CPU (though it is already known), RAM (amount), Disks (inc. HDD, DVD; type e.g. SATA/IDE), Sound card, LAN, WLAN.

Okay I'll try my best to provide all that information if i cant find it all or what not then i'll ask you where i search, I'm going to install both programs in like 2 mins ubuntu is just finishing installing, also my ram is 2.5gb

I'd suggest these patches/drivers/kernels for ipc 10.5.6:

All kernels

IntelICHxSATA driver

ACPI fix

PS/2 support

AppleSMBIOS 28

EFI Studio, OSx86Tools, Pacifist, Perian, DSDT Patcher GUI, Mkext Tool, NTFS-3G

Additionally, if you are going to use a Vanilla kernel choose these:

Patch DSDT with new HPET

Chameleon with SMBIOS/DSDT (note that AppleSMBIOS 28 will not be needed in this case)

Do not install any VGA/LAN/WLAN/Sound drivers install them later on booted system.

On boot. You may still face some boot problems. Use some boot flags:

-v Voodoo cpus=1

-v = verbose mode (displays boot messages; useful for troubleshooting) always use this then installing and booting after install

Voodoo = name of an alternative kernel; use alternative kernel flag then the default kernel is not booting (reboot loop); other kernels Sleep, SpeedStep, Sleep, modbin, StageXNU

cpus=1 = force use one core only; useful then it doesn't boot with all cores used (a proper DSDT may be needed to make all cores work).

And finally is my drive supossed to be erased as a extended mac journaled?
If you are going to install Windows XP too, partition it to MBR. If it's going to be Windows7 or Vista or Linux plus OS X, then partition to GPT. Simply speaking, Win XP can't be installed to GPT formatted disk. Windows7x64, Vistax64, Linux can be installed to GPT disk, but if a PC supports UEFI. If OS X is to be the only OS on the disk, formate it to GPT. And yes, it should be HFS+ journalled.

How do I format it to GPT..? Also I didn't understand anything you said about that vanilla thing, so I will install all kernals and also am I supossed to install a video card or no?

Well. You can't format to GPT(GUID partition table http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GUID_Partition_Table), you can partition to GPT :D Use OS X disk utility. Select Partition tab>Options>GUID>Format(OS X extended journalled). Create one or more partitions, depending on your future needs.

Vanilla = OS X installation with an original unattached kernel and (more or less) unattached file system. Possible with CPUs supporting SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3. If you don't know what it is, don't mess with it for now :)

VGA = video card. So as I've said

Do not install any VGA/LAN/WLAN/Sound drivers install them later on booted system.

So i tired installing, but it failed, so I went into kernals and just selected voodoo, and selected everything else you said, mac installed fine. However I'm using a laptop, and the keyboard on the laptop and the mouse pad dont work. I had to plug in a USB mouse and keyboard, how do I get the laptop keyboard and mouse to work, and now what do I need to install? Like what ethernet, wireless, video card, and how do I install it, thanks alot, at least now I got mac on just need to install some things i guess

If the PS/2 support has been selected, both keyboard and mouse should work. However, try installing a VoodooPS2controller. Depending on how driver is presented (as an installer or as a kext), procedure may differ. For installer just install. For kext, use OSx86Tools to install it.

VGA http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...6812&st=420 http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=188084 or simply try ATI_init.

Also may use the same approach as with Wireless (see bellow).

Ethernet http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...0&start=140

Wireless Use the same install dvd. Proceed to customization. This time select an Intel PROset/Wireless 3945 driver only. MAKE SURE EVERYTHING ELLS IS NOT SELECTED, SELECT ONLY THE DRIVER!

For sound (if it is not working) install VoodooHDA.

Do your own {censored} research, we aren't here to hold your hand. If you can't put in the effort, go back to Windows. :(

Also for the Video Card you sent two links, which one am I to look at or, whats this ATI_init, i just want the driver so I want watch HD youtube videos and play my games.. thanks again.

How so, I couldn't even find out my specs so I needed help with that, what is the point of a forum if you can't ask questions, if nobody asked there would be no threads jack(censored)

Well, my patience is limited to some point.

Keyboard:

what I meant to say, is "If you have selected the PS/2 support in customize section on installation (as you where told to), the keyboard and touchpad should work". Obviously they don't. So ether you have not selected PS/2 support to be installed or it doesn't work. Therefore you should now try to install a driver named VoodooPS2Controller. Use google to find it. Now drivers for OS X may come in various forms. Like in Windows one may download driver in zip or exe or rar or msi forms. The same sh...t in OS X. It can be a .dmg or .pkg or .kext. Depending on what form the driver is downloaded, the procedure of installation may differ. If it it's .dmg or .pkg just click till the finish. If it's .kext use an application OSx86Tools to install it. The particular VoodooPS2Controller comes in .pkg form. Means a simple installer (click,click,click...)

DVD thing. My point was, that it is possible to install a driver from the same install DVD you have used to install OS X. Boot it like you are going to install OS X again. Now do not format HDD or something like that. GO to customize section (there you can select drivers to install). Uncheck any other option that is present except the driver you'd like to install. Be sure that nothing ells is selected. Procide to install just like you woould do then installing OS X.

Now do not install multiple drivers from the DVD at once. Install one at a time. This is needed to troubleshoot any possible issues. It is easier to understand what is the problem about then drivers are installed one by one.

VGA. The only difference it the two links is a that they contain links to a different drivers.

Look for the links to driver downloads. ATI_init is a universal driver for multiple ATI and Nvidia cards. Try ATI_init first. If no success, try the others two.

Be sure to use the forum search.

Okay I tried the intel wireless and I tried sarafi then internet diagnostics and i dont have the option to select airport or anything, so how do I get the internet working on this laptop, and I did select the keyboard thing, i selected mouse and keyboard and it doesnt work so I'll try that voodoo thing but first I need the internet to work please help me out, I didn't know I couldnt select more then one driver, but i only did it for wireless, I selected the one you said, the first intel wireless and the atheros. So how do I get my wireless to work, thanks a lot. cheers

Asking questions that are explained over and over again and that can be answered with a quick search do no good for anybody. Period.
