Does anyone have (or did anyone have) a similar problem with USB devices? All other USB devices run fine, but those all have an external AC adapter, or a low voltage requirement.

Hi again,

Still trying to get my external usb sound card to work..

Does anyone have any idea? Because I suspect this to be DSDT or USB driver related and so far no other mention of problems like this..

Thanks,

Nik.

Always worked for me, same board, even after update to 10.6.3 just had to get the appleHDA kext from 10.6.2 and replace it in S/L/E and add the LegacyHDA in E/E

Remember to set under settings-sound-output to internal (default gives output to front panel)

Gonna see what I can try more on monday (got the computer with mac elsewhere). Since i'm kinda new to mac, I'll see if I can get this done, gonna reply more sometime on monday, Thx for the tip.

Installed it with this guide and chose the exact correct motherboard (GA-EP45-UD3LR).

Works like a charm to install, it finds my cpu (e6500) witch another guide did not.

But I cannot get the sound working. It cannot find any sound to play with in the output pane. And if i see about this mac it seems like there is no driver active.

I'm currenty trying to update to 10.6.3 to see if that helps, but I doubt it, didn't work last time.

I've done all the bios settings that this guide says, even checked that sound is enabled in BIOS.

Any clues how? or workaround?

- yup - see my earlier reply a couple of pages back. Had the same problems as you but installed the kexts as per that repl;y using b7 helper and I now sit here listening to the internet radio as I type. ;)

I found out my X58A-UD3R is rev.1002

is there a difference over Rev.1? Now what am I supposed to do?

The install for the x58a-ud3r appears to install the boot loader incorrectly.

Does anyone know if kakewalk is fully compatable with the newer 10.6.3 install disks? Or was this intended for 10.6.0 disks or does it even matter?

Kakewalk was made before the 10.6.3 disc.

Could you check your Manual for what revision you are on? If you have 1002 than were in the same boat, if there is a matter of Rev.1 and 1002

As I wrote before, I've heard that you can't install OS X with an IDE cd/dvd reader, is that true or can I install it anyway?

i am wondering... i have a gigabyte p55m-ud2 motherboard, and you say it has support for it... though in the guide it says that p55 chipsets are not working?! (@ ISO burn info)

So what's it... does or doesnt?

Anyone.. please? :(:)

I've got the same question, someone please answer.

Will I be able to install OSX with an IDE CD/DVD reader?

This is my first time posting and I'm pretty new to all of this, so apologies up front if I say anything wrong...

I think you should be able to install from an IDE DVD/CD drive. I initially tried to—using the GA-X58A-UD7 board—but I couldn't boot from the drive until I deviated from the Kakewalk guide and switched all SATA/RAID settings to IDE instead of AHCI. At that point I ran into the keyboard problem mentioned earlier in this thread (it stopped working so I couldn't hit f5 or enter), but I think I could have finished if I had turned on USB Keyboard Function in the BIOS.

Instead, I figured I was being crazy not to spend another $20 on an SATA DVD drive and do everything exactly as the Kakewalk guide recommended. So I went with a Sony Opti-Arc Black from Newegg. I turned on the USB Keyboard Function this time and was able to install lickety split! (Never could get the thumb drive method to work, though...)

I got sound to work by running #####. I still have the orange HDD thing going on, but that's no big deal. Netflix streaming was also broken for me, but ##### fixed that, too. (I can only imagine it was thanks to the setting that tricks your computer into thinking it's a Mac Pro revision 4,1.)

One more note: when I ran #####, the progress bar got about 3/4 of the way done before that dreaded, gray "You must restart your computer" kernel panic screen came up. I figured I had hosed my installation, but everything was fine when I rebooted—and I had sound!

Many, many thanks to Mrjanek and all the other helpful people on this board! I hope these ramblings can be of use to someone...

Can you explain what you did? step by step. I have the same MB P35-DS3R. I can boot into screen with drive selections. after I put in Mac OS disk in and selected it, it was busy for a moment and then just went blank. I had to hit restart button. I tried both KakewalkLegacy.iso and iso made from Mac.

I can boot into the installer using bootcd from a different thread and was able to install SL but had problem with booting into Mac after installation. I have three partitions: data, Window 7, and Mac format journal.

If you absolutely have no choice and just have to install Windoze7 on the same HDD as OS X, do it the easiest way possible ( a separate HDD really IS the best option):

1. When you boot into your OS X install, select disk utility and format the HDD with 3 partitions - Partition 1=MBR FAT32, partition 2=GUID, extended, journaled, partition 3=MBR FAT32. IF you have WIN7 32 bit, partition 1 should be at least 20 Gb for Win7 Pro, 30 for Win7 Ultimate if you install all of the language packages. Partition 2 can be as small as 15 Gb (10 would probably work but I like close to 2X for the OS X partition. Partition 3 is for shared data for both OS's. When you have the partitions sized how you like them, select partition 2 and ERASE it using HFS+ journaled. Exit disk utility and finish installing OS X on partition 2. Reboot into OS X and remove the boot CD (if there is one) from your multi player. Insert the Win 7 install disk, close the drawer and reboot. Select partition 1 to install Win7 on - you may have to format it first. When windows gets through installing, download and install Easy BCD , run it and follow directions you can find elsewhere to get the win 7 bootloader to see your OS X on the boot and allow you to select between them.

You are now dual booting. If you want to add a 3rd OS, boot into OS X and use the Disk Utility to shrink the data file section and add a new partition for your Linux or other OS. It really is that easy.

Just wanted to report another successful install.

System Specs:

Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L rev 1.1

Core 2 Duo E7500 (2.93Ghz 3MB Cache)

4GB (2x2GB) DDR2-800

2x400GB + 1x1.5TB Drives

DigiDesign MBox2 and iLok are working. No firewire so I am unable to test my Digi 002

System won't boot with my Dlink 7 Port USB hub connected.

I was unable to get my Gigabyte GV-R485MC-1GI (Radeon 4850 1GB Silent Cool) working (Preferred video card). I do have the Zotac 1GB 9500GT working though.

Sound is working, I used the 10.6.2 AppleHDAInstaller. Wasn't working, seemed to start working after in installed Pro Tools, though I had done a lot of other updates prior to that reboot.

My eHome Infrared Receiver is working using Mira with my Harmony 550 (Apple Remote as the device).

I haven't tried getting sleep working. That's my next project.

Kakewalk was made before the 10.6.3 disc.

My board says rev 1 and my manual says rev 1002 ( I kind of think that 1002 is a rev for the manual and not the board. . .)

Given that we have the same board I am fending you on here, yo.

I am going to dig through the forums and manually assemble my load out of kexts and dsdt edits myself; there isn't enough documentation here for me to spend time messing with this distro / install patcher when nobody seems to know what is going on.

i re-installed everything because i saw that they have fixed the audio problem. When i finished installing it, i did not have audio in 10.6... when i upgraded to 10.6.3 i still didn't get my audio.

i have a ep45-ud3l mobo... didn't they fix the audio problem? or do i have to install something¿?

I followed many threads to boot and install 10.6 and only the bootCD from blackosx's thread worked: Vanilla Retail 10.6.3 with Chameleon v2 for Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L. My MB is not the same as described in his thread; mine is GA-P35-DS3R

following that thread, I successfully installed both Win 7 and SL 10.6 on two separate partitions. but there are a few issues:

1) sound and wifi (Linksys WMP300N) are not working.

2) I can boot straight into Win7 but the only way to boot into SL is to use the BootCD, which I used to installed SL. I tried to install/setup Chameleon on a separate partition (as the guide described in that thread) but this Chameleon partition failed to boot into SL; it gave me "boot error". I repeates the process many many times but still did not work. but at least I can used the bootcd to get into SL

3) where do I get SMSerial to update SMBIOS.plist file? according to the guide from that thread.

Did you carefully follow the instructions in step 9?

As for sound, AFTER you have updated SL to 10.6.3, go to:

http://www.kexts.com/view/333-binary_patch...for_alc888.html

and download the file. You can either open Terminal and type in the commands exactly as you see them in the install directions on this url page or if you are not comfortable with Terminal, you can use Kext Utility to put the kext in S/L/E and repair permissions. Can't help you on the wifi.

Just about to build my "hac pro", have a question regarding sound on the X58-UD7.

When I get the sound to work (if it doesn't doesn't work right away :) ) will it be through digital out or analog out??

Or maybe both?? :P

Thanks in advance!

I got my board working, my guide is on this forum here. ##### + #####. Everything I could Possibly test is working for me. This also has a DSDT for the board assuming you have the i7-930

Hi

I'm wondering if this configuration work with kakewalk

- Intel Core i7 920

- Gigabyte X58-DS4

- Gigabyte 4870 1gb

- Kingston 3x2gb DDR3 1333Mhz

- WD Caviar Green 1TB Sata (for windows 7 )

- Realtek RTL8168D/8111D PCI-e Gigabit Ethernet

- Realtek High Definition Audio

I would like to install SL on my old IDE 160gb hdd, so is it work or not?

Thanks

First off, thank for for the simple OS X install. I had an Asus board and used manual methods before. Kakewalk rocks.

Ok, I have a EP45-UD3P v1.6. 2 x nVidia 9500GT's. These were working on my old OS X install. I am not sure how to get both working with Kakewalk (10.6.3). I have read a lot of posts about getting the gfx strings, editing plist's and DSDT. I am hoping there is an easier solution?

I really need this to work as I use this at my office and having 3-4 monitors is essential.

Thanks again.
