Vanilla install on Dell Vostro 1510 - 1520

@IndianaJones: Ok, I'm trying this dual booting thing and I'm having problems.

I've got three partitions on a GPT: first is Leopard, second is Snow, third is Windows (WIn7 on NTFS).

After I installed Win7 it'd go straight to the Windows bootloader, meaning I couldn't boot OS X without the SnowBoot disc. I tried gptsync (wasn't too sure exactly how to use it, but I think gptsync /dev/disk0 is right, yeah?) from Leopard, Snow Leopard and the iATkos 7i install disc, and all three times it said the tables were synced and nothing needed to be done, but it was still booting straight to the Win7 bootloader. One thing I noticed was fdisk reported only the Win7 partition as active.

I tried installing Chameleon 2 RC3 from both Leopard and Snow over those two partitions, but it didn't change anything.

So I installed Cham 2 from the iAtkos 7i install disc, which did work, but then I couldn't boot Win7. Tried using the WIn7 repair feature and it just says it can't do anything.

And now I can't boot Snow Leo either, it just hangs during verbose mode in Darwin...

 

Any help, please?

 

EDIT: Think I might have done it. This guide seems to be a good one to go by.

I'd forgotten how important the active partition was.

Although somehow, I ended up not needing to use gptsync...

Sorry I did not respond on time, but I'm glad that you've got the installation working. I did not have to switch the active partition; I'm a bit surprised because I installed Vista at the end and it should have switched the active partition since I had Vista booting after the install!

That is weird. I think I've got it sorted it out now though.

Might try it with my Vostro sometime soon.

Anyone know anything possibly fixing it so you don't need to reboot if you accidentally forget to turn the physical Wireless switch on (bottom left, at the front)? Minor annoyance.

Just because you have the same sound card, doesn't mean it'll work.

The sound card is one of the least important components when you're looking for likeliness of compatibility.

I've tried this but when I finally get to boot in mac it says there is no keyboard.

 

On another board it says I should select ps2 keyboard during install but could not find anywhere to do that.

 

Has anyone else had this? What do I do?

"Select PS2 keyboard" is probably for a custom Leopard distro install, like Kalyway, iPC or iDeneb.

Are you sure you're following this guide properly? Exactly?

 

You need to make sure you have VoodooPS2.kext installed.

Yes I followed the instructions in the 1st post. I get to the part where I use disk utility, but the keyboards doesn't work.

 

I see the part in the instructions about voodooPS2.kext, but I can't get to that point without the keyboard.

 

If I just accept the defaults, it boots up into mac OS but freezes with a no keyboard message

Right then what you need to do is put VoodooPS2.kext onto a USB and install that either via the install disc, if you can boot that, or via Snow Leo's Single User mode.

 

Ah ok I just got halfway through writing the instructions before I realised your keyboard/trackpad doesn't work for the Snow Leo install disc, right?

 

Ok well if you're booting Snow Leo install from a USB then you should be able to simply put VoodooPS2.kext in the /System/Library/Extensions file on the install image.

If not, then you have two choices as far as I can tell: inject the kext into the install image and reburn your disc; or install Leopard and then use the OSInstall.mpkg install method (but that assumes the PS2 works in Leopard (which it should, althogh it should in Snow, too, so that's weird)).

Installing Leopard is a minor inconvenience, but I've never edited an ISO and reburning a DVD±DL seems like it would be pretty annoying/a waste of money.

 

Ask if you need more help/pick a method.

Still can't manage it

 

Been trying to edit the dmg file from windows but no success. I've tried transmac and macdrive but they don't let me modify an image and burn it back as a mac disk.

 

Do you know a way to edit a dmg file in windows, and then preferably put it on a USB (I'm running out of Dual layer disks)

I've had some progress

 

Here's what I did :

 

Installed as in 1st post from the install DVD - during install I used Disk Utility to create a mac and a FAT partition.

 

After install, installed Windows 7 to the FAT (making it NTFS - Windows install handle mac partitions)

 

It then boots into windows. Installed MacDrive and could make the changes listed in the 1st post . Just booted it from the Snowboot disk and I now have keyboard and mouse working.

 

No sound though - I'll have to try figure that one out.

 

am going to install EasyBCD to make it proper dual boot.

Hello i read online of all of you guys getting osx to work on a dell studio 1735 i have tryed so many times and i just catn get it. im wondering what options should i select in customize and should i use iatkos 7i or 5 i or ideneb or leo4all.When i used iatkos 7i i have tryed both kernals and even not selecting a kernal still same problem. everytime i install useing atkos 7i install works but when the os is loading up the screen turns all messed up gray/white boxs. i should also add that after i get osx working i plan on triple booting with windows 7 and ubunto.

It is also a thread about the VOSTRO 1510 and 1520.

 

Your machine is completely different and you're not even trying to install the same operating system!

Hi, I am just a newbie to Hackintosh. I have a Dell Vostrol 1510. I installed SL on my lappy already, but I dont know how to Enable QE/CI for my geforce 8400 GS and when I try to enable my wireless card by using included shell script. I can't type my password.

 

Sorry for Noobish question but I really need help.
