Before you chip in, I will state that I have a macbook with a working DVI out.

My hackintosh notebook just screams in comparison. So, I prefer to use the hackintosh (plus, a drab looking Dell is less likely to be, ahem, "detained" by good folks at DHS, than a shiny macbook, when you re-enter the country) when I can.

The additional advantage is that the VGA out is more compatible with 99%+ of the external projectors / beamers, than the DVI/VGA dance. I also have a Dell Mini 9 which is a piece of joy to use for making presentations and travelling.

But my question is - have any of you used a hackintosh notebook for making a job interview presentation ? Would that not be declaring a certain level of ignorance of / contempt for the law (my field is all technical, with plenty of CS types, who eat software licenses for breakfast) ?

Its one thing to use a hackintosh notebook to teach (your audience is mostly software license contemptuous). Quite another in this situation ?

What are your thoughts ?

I'm a web developer and I'm currently looking for a job.

I always use my Hackbook to make a presentation at the interview, but no one noticed that is OSX so far - even if they see the boot logo and logging into the desktop, they don't care.

Also, there was another guy who whon't beleive that it's OSX. He was firmly convinced about that is a Windows with a pretty good OSX skin, period, no matter what I showed him.

I think it's only a big thing for myself, so I can do my work better with OSX than with Windows :-)

If you paid for OS X, the copy thats running on the Dell, then go for it.

Sorry for the necro posting, but I have been thinking about this myself, since i may eventually want to work in tech again.

Has anyone successfully gotten a job after using a Hackintosh in an interview, either mentioning one or bringing one in? I would think it would turn out to be a dual-edged sword.

On one hand, it demonstrates your abilities (not always good if it's a peon tech position, but one would hope ability = hire).

On the other, it shows your disregard for EULAs and the risk you may pose to the company, since violations can result in a number of bad things (purist disagreements, loss of business due to legal concerns, possible lawsuits (even if unlikely)).

As for the poster that had said their interviewer refused to believe you had OSX on a PC, you probably don't want to work for someone that ignorant anyway...
