Zeroburn
Hi everyone, I have been a bit out of touch of the OSX86 scene sense Snow Leopard was released, but I hear the installation of a retail DVD is rather easy now a days. So far I have no had such luck. I'm trying to install on a HP system that currently has no OS, a DV3500 system (the copper looking ones with nVidia 9300m GS graphics, Intel Core2Duo) and I canot for the life of me get the retail DVD to boot from Chameleon 2.0 Rc3. Anyone have any suggestions for this model? a general laptop guide of some sort? I just need to get up to speed, and all the guide I have read so far don't seem very helpful unless I already have OSX 10.5 leopard already installed on it. Thanks everyone, ZB Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/189563-help-installing-snow-leopard-with-hp-dv3500/ Share on other sites
justroach
I hate to link offsite, but these guides helped me get up and going: http://www.teknojunkie.com/2009/09/boot-re...ard-disk-on-pc/ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/189563-help-installing-snow-leopard-with-hp-dv3500/#findComment-1284592 Share on other sites
Zeroburn
Thanks for the help, I will try this once I get home! Thank you! I hope if anyone else has any tips or tricks, would be nice. I did get a usb key to have Chameleon boot off it with the SL install on it as well, but I do not have a dsdt.aml file nor how to get to edit the apple boot file (forgot the name of this file). I don't have OSX install on the laptop at all yet so I have no idea how to go about getting these files made, or to manually edit these files with the right info. the nvidia 9300m is a discrete igp I think, using 512mb roughly. Thanks again Justroach! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/189563-help-installing-snow-leopard-with-hp-dv3500/#findComment-1284749 Share on other sites
Zeroburn
Just letting you know that I"m currently having issues getting the EFI string for my 9300m GS graphics card. None of the known tools have any preset settings for me to make my own export file so I can edit my com.apple.boot.plist file and I think I might have made the DSDT.aml file right but I am not sure. Anyone maybe have this exact card and can send me the EFI String? Zeroburn
Well right now I want to install Snow Leopard fresh on this unit, I have my key setup fine, it seems like for some reason I get this odd USB error and the boot loader is waiting for the root device to boot. I'm using the Macinized method mentioned above. On the boot up off the usb key, I get a "appleusbehci" error -cannot initialize uim. Waiting for root device" Not sure why this happens, hopefully someone has seen this before? I have my dsdt.aml, smbios.plist, apple.boot.plist. And the Apple ps2 kexts with voodoohda kexts installed in the Extra folder. no idea what I'm missing Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/189563-help-installing-snow-leopard-with-hp-dv3500/#findComment-1290063 Share on other sites

Zeroburn
I was actually able to magically get it installed...not sure how, I just loaded a ton of Kexts I could find to be honest with you...mostly ahci and usb family kexts. The only issue so far I have now is getting all the drivers (idt audio, wireless, ect) working....and most importantly: how can I get OSX Snow Leopard to run without needing the USB key to load it? If anyone can help me with this, I will definitely write up some sort of guide on how I got my system installed. uninc
ZeroBurn i am having a lot of difficulty getting graphics recognized. i add our DevID to nvdaresman, i know its recognized with graphicsenabler=y but the screen isnt getting a signal after boot, its blank. aty_init is the only injector that worked for me but it doesnt work well. nvenabler also produces blank. if i remove the DevID I get NVDan50 loaded and a screen but no QE/CI. maybe there is something wrong with my dsdt? it appears i am stuck with 32Mb of interated {censored}. Zeroburn
Hi Everyone, Yes, it seems like some how, the graphics are fully accelerated and all. I don't see anything saying quartz extreme is on, but maybe that's changed from Leopard to Snow Leopard? I'm currently out of the country (I'm in the US and now in Taiwan) for the week, hopefully by next Sunday, I'll be back and able to get that kext list for you guys.
