Asus P5KR MoBo

4.0GB Ram Team ( Cheap Stuff )

1TB Samsung HDD

LG Blu Ray SATA Rom

Liteon IDE DVD

Used chameleon-2-rc3 to boot

Swapped Disc For Retail Snow

Installed Snow ...Failed Install ( Not Really )

Now this is where it got a little tricky .... You have to boot back off the Boot CD to get back into Snow sow that I could install the Snow boot loaded and then load the Snow kext into the extra folder ...now if i tried to boot of the SATA DVD Drive it would not work ...so for some stupid reason I thought that I would try the IDE DVD drive and It worked ..This same thing would happen over and over... Yes i had many attemts at Installing it on this board ... I get a default 64Bit kernal no matter what I do ... i used VooDooHDA for Sound and after a very long look around the net I found a 64Bit AttansicL1Ethernet and it worked ...used EFI String for Video ...Updated to 10.6.1 no problems installed iTunes 9 .

I also have a P5Q-SE that was much easier to buy just following this guide Guide But for some reason that Boot CD in That Guide would not work on a P5KR MoBo but is perfect on a P5Q-SE MoBo

Hi, I got the same board, but I only get a kernel panic when SL starts,

Which kernel extension you had to install? For example, are you using dsmos or fakesmc?

What about DSDT.aml? Did you need to patch DSDT?

Many thank's to copytec who help me:

This works for my P5KR. (sleep don't work and input micro don't work)

i follow this guide: 3rr0rists.com

sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions

sudo chown -R 0:0 /System/Library/Extensions

sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions

kextcache -v 1 -t -m /Extra/Extensions.mkext /Extra/Extensions/ /System/Library/Extensions/

kextcache -v 1 -t -m /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext /System/Library/Extensions/

- Done.

- Reboot, and remove your snow leopard Boot cd. now you can boot snow leopard without CD Boot.

Thanks acetone for the kexts!!

I succeeded to install SL fine now.

The boot CD that you've used doesn't work for me, I believe it is because my DVD burner is SATA. I can only use that boot CD if I disable SATA AHCI mode in the BIOS, using IDE mode, but then the SL installation fails.

I ended up installing SL directly from inside Leopard, then installing chameleon 2.0 RC3 and the kernel extensions you've provided. No black magic was required :)

Note1: My DVD burner connected to the ICH9R controller instead of the Jmicron, this explains why the CD doesn't work for me.

Note2: Attached here you can find an installation tutorial in pdf format and a zip file with the kernel extensions.

I'm publishing a tutorial shortly describing my installation method.

I have 4 hard drive on SATA AHCI. My DVD burner is on the jmicron SATA on AHCI.

From this installation i just add Chameleon RC3 and the EFI 10.3.

I have just 2 problems:

  • Micro don't work
  • Sleep don't work

For Input Mic Working you can try this VoodooHDA.kext: VoodooHDA Kext you must install this kext with kesthelper or repair permissions after installation.

(i find this at: Link)

PS: I had some KP in x32 mode and all rocks after an mod in info.plist. Please report your results

Hi, thank you so much for this tutorial. I have a P5KR motherboard and managed to install SL thanks to the posts and attachments here.

I'm a newbie and some of the things here might be obvious to some but for those who aren't experienced, here it is:

I have a macbook, initially i tried to install using the SL disc that came with it. No go, it kept giving me errors when i tried to install from within OSX. I used the boot cd that came was posted here, also tried another boot cd called Empire EFI (more on this later), and tried to install directly from the cd, but it prompt me saying that MacOSX cannot be installed on this computer, and if i want to restore from a time machine backup. This was solved by purchasing a RETAIL version of MacOSX. So get it from wherever and make sure its RETAIL, not the dvd that comes a long with a MAC.

Next, more dvd drive problems. I have a SATA dvd drive. In ahci modes, the boot cd's will not load. When you turn of ahci and set it to ide mode from within the bios, the drives would not be detected properly. The solution, connect the sata dvd drive to the Jmicron sata port, and your hard drives to the intel sata ports. from the bios, set the sata controller mode to ahci from the main screen, then, go the the jmicron screen, and set the sata settings to ide there. This way, you will be able to boot the boot cd and also install it to your hardisk wiht no problems. One thing though, when youre done with the installation, you will need to change the setting back to ahci for the sata dvd drive, so that the dvd drive will be detected properly when you insert a dvd in while running the os. Also, setting the jmicron sata controller causes macosx to panic. I reconnected the sata dvd drive to the intel sata controller and it worked fine after that, detecting new cd/dvds inserted (ahci mode).

After installation, i followed mcil's instuctions and copied the files he posted. This way, it would boot up fine, but I had problems with the graphics card. I have a nvidia 7900 gt card, 256 mb of ram. I looked at the system profiler, and it kept showing that i had an ati 4890 card installed.

I tried osx86tools, tried to add my cards efi string to the boot.plist file but that didnt change anything, so for those facing the problems, here is how i got it to work.

First things first, the com.apple.Boot.plist file you need to edit is the one in the /Extra folder, NOT the one in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/. you can use osx86free tools to edit the one in /L/P/S folder, then copy it to the Extra folder, overwriting the one there. This solved only half of the problem. My card was still being reported as an ATI 4890 card. This was solved by deleting the EVOEnabler.kext file that i copied into the Extensions folder. After rebooting, everything was fine, just that the 7900 gt kept crasing whenever i tried to minimize a window. I changed it to an 8400 gs card that i had lying around, changed the efi string to match that (remember, in the Extra flder), and everything works fine now.

Next, i tried to upgrade to 10.6.2, and was greeted with a kernel panic when i tried to boot. I tried booting with the -v option, and noted some error message about dsmos. something something com.apple.dsmos....

So, I tried deleting dsmos.kext from the Extra folder, and it worked! Now i have 10.6.2 running fine on computer.

Thanks so much for this thread and its replies.

PS: not happy with the performance of the 8400 gs card, i bought a 9600 gt 512 mb. Before installing it, i used osx86tools to remove the efi string for the previous graphics card. Then, i edited the com.apple.Boot.plist (again, in the Extra folder), and added the graphics elabler key as follows:

<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>

<string>yes</string>

Shutdown the computer, replaced the graphics card, started it and the 9600 gt 512 meg card was detected with no problems. I found out at the osx86 hw compatibility site that this particular card works just by enabling the GraphicsEnabler key without having to set the EFI string.

Hi, I had no problems with the 8400 GS, just that i was using a 1920x1200 resolution screen and the card ran a little (but most definitely usable) slow on it. Actually, it ran pretty well, even with google earth, but I guess I was greedy for performance.

The 7900 GT 256 meg card seemed to run well too, until you pressed the '-' window control button, then the screen would dim and you would get a message in multiple languages telling you the the computer has stopped working and that you have to hold down the power button to shut it off, apple's version of the blue screen of death I suppose

hi all,

i had problems too with a 8500GT some lags while watching movies in vlc but under 64bit kernel

i've a 7900GT and a 7500LE both working well in 32bit . i can't use 64bit only for a Zydas USB wifi

not working in 64bit kernel.

my last problem is the Audio. to those who get audio working on this board i've a question:

in your bios which is the good setting AC97 or HDAudio ?

in fact i try to make it working without dsdt patching ... but for now, noway ...
