First post from a long time lurker. Today I got around to updating to 10.4.6 using the auto installer found on the 'bay. My original install was a 10.4.5 from the image "osx86_10.4.5_amd-intel_sse2-3." After the update, my screen res. was back to 1024x768, so i went in to edit com.apple.Boot.plist, only to find that it was BLANK. I've read about it missing and whatnot, but it's there, just blank. Also, when OSX loads i get an error about "AppleVIAATA.kext not installed correctly, and should be reinstalled." I've noticed no problems from this, other than its a bit annoying to see everytime i boot up. Also, iTunes has taken it upon itself to automatically load as soon as OSX is finished loading. It is not checked to "start at login" and I can't find anything in the prefences to disable this. anyone have any answers or a copy of com.apple.Boot.plist?

cliffs:

Problems after 10.4.6 update:

1) com.apple.Boot.plist is there, but blank, and will not open in the default application, boots fine otherwise with default res. of 1024x768

2)AppleVIAATA.kext error upon OSX loading.

3)iTunes autostarts upon OSX loading.

System:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice (SSE3 capable)

ECS nFORCE4-A939

512mb DDR400

ATi Radeon (model escapes me) 64MB PCI

Another thing that seems to have popped up:

The Screensaver doesn't come on. It will only work if i click "test" or set it to a hot corner. Even with the hot corner, it stops moving after awhile. as if whatever the screensaver is has frozen, but the system comes back fine upon moving the mouse.

repair permissions and then type this in your console:

sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleVIAATA.kext

(enter your password when prompted)

and

sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleVIAATA.kext

(enter your password when prompted)

and

sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

and

sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache

reboot and watch it in verbose mode and when ya get booted you should be golden if the hardware is supported

Also a better way than using the com.apple.Boot.plist to get your resolution is to go to omni.starchaser.org and download the ATI Driver Callisto that Omni made and then you will be able to have full resolution and refresh rates. make sure you remove the display line you added to your com.apple.Boot.plist before installing and restarting.

Have fun and this will make ya enjoy your experience a lot better.. :D
