We are now using the old osx kernel (8.4.1) that Apple released for

the development platform that uses BIOS, not EFI.

But now, the development moved to official Apple hardware that

uses EFI. So, we cannot use the new osx kernels. We just update

software packages but the most important part of the system, the kernel,

is very old and has its problems...

It seems that the "hackintosh" experience will end when Tiger's life will end.

If we can't get new kernels running on the standard PC hardware, Hackintoshes

will soon become history... Just like happened with Rhapsody DR2 x86 years ago...

If nobody manages to hack the newest kernels to run on PC hardware, the only

hope is that Appple will release a generic PC version of OSX.

Considering this, how do you see the future of the Hackintosh?

Well, I enjoy my hackintosh as it is, no more complaints than I would have for any of my windows OSes really. There may or may not be a future of growth for Hacktel, who knows, but for my own future I'll probably by a real Mac when they release the desktop Mactels.

for me, having os x installed on my desktop has almost converted me. I know when I come tyo change my pc it will be an apple mac...hopefully a Mcbook Pro. If i need windows, i will use bootcamp.

So, by enabling me too install it on *real* hardware, they hav definately got themselves a new customer for the future!
