soulless
I used the new "Generic DVD Install Tiger". If you want dual boot Windows - Mac, this is easy way: 1. Boot from "Generic DVD Install Tiger". 2. When the install program start, open "Disk Utility". 3. Select your hard disk and click over "partition". Create two partition (one HFS+ and other MS-DOS). When you finish close Disk Utility. 4. Restart (WITHOUT INSTALL MAC OS X YET, NO INSTALL TIGER YET) 5. Boot used Windows XP CD and install Win in the Partition created (MS-DOS). Select the partition MS-DOS (FAT32), and then select format NTFS and install. 6. When you win install finished, boot used "Generic DVD Install Tiger" again and install Tiger in the other partition HFS+. When you boot your computer press key and you can select Mac OS X Tiger or Windows XP. Good Luck. Note: Backup all your data before try this.I'm not responsible for you pooching your machine if you try this and don't know what you're doing or make a mistake. I only try write one method that I used and all work perfect. Excuse my english but I'm spanish Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/1818-easy-dual-boot/ Share on other sites

AgentOrange
Windows should still use C:, since the HFS+ volume isn't visible to the OS and therefore not assigned it's own drive letter. E will now be C and the hfs partition will be assigned with F or E. Stern
it's much easier to do with an already made windows installation if you put the option in the windows boot loader. just copy chain0 from /usr/standalone/i386 to C:/. then add C:/chain0="MacOSX x86" to the boot.ini file located in C:/. this allows you to dual boot mac and windows much more easily. foureight84
for you to dual boot using this method, you need to set xp partition to active rather than having osx as default active partition. then once you install osx, copy the \usr\standalone\chain0 from the dvd to C:\ (windows partition), then edit the boot.ini and add this to the bottom of the page "C:\chain0="Mac OSX x86 Dev". If you don't know what i'm talking about and need a clearer explaination, use the search button and search for "dual boot" there are several topics on this. xSuRgEx
ok so if i make a new partition with Pmagic. and set my xp partition as "active" is there anything else i need to do with the newly created partition? do i leave it untouched? sorry for sounding stupid, but i want to get this right with out having to reinstall windows xp. thanks (edit) would it be possable to copy over the \usr\standalone\i386\chain0 to my c:\ then edit the boot.ini so it shows [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect "C:\chain0="Mac OSX x86 Dev" to see if the bootloader shows up? elisan
For all the people that don´t wanna mess around with MBR or special Disktools, try Smart Bootmanager (open source): http://btmgr.sourceforge.net/download.html It creates one bootable Floppy and overides all BIOS settings without changing them, e.g. it is possible to boot from CDROM, even if your BIOS doesn´t support that... It does not install to your harddisk, it just starts from floppy drive.
