of course

1. copy back the backup image of your 10.5.7 to your hardrive

2. set disk active

3. apply bootloader

you don´t a have copy of the previous version? hmmm.......I´m pretty sure the next time you´ll have one :dev:

Is it possible to backup the System folder only, or do i have to image my whole 250GB hard drive in order to make the backup usable?

I'm more familiar with the way it worked in OS 9 and previous systems, i'm not sure what applying bootloader means...

imho it is better use the image instead of messin´around with hidden files, dependencies and permissions.

1. imo it is a must to have a second small install of os x on an other harddrive, partition or even an usb drive.

don´t forget this is still an experiment in progression - and that is your insurance for everything.

2. boot into your second install and create a dmg file of your main install.

100% update procedure:

1.boot your second install and download the update. start the update and choose your main os x as destination.

2.delete or update anything necessary to make it work from within the second install.

if anything fails:

1.boot your second install, mount your backup dmg and clone it with copycatx - it will be bootable immediately.

using carbon copy cloner: from second install - copy , set disk active with osx86tools and install chameleon with chameleon installer

Or you can use a time machine backup...

But if you restore using the time machine backup from your CD and you are using Chameleon, you would have to reinstall Chameleon after the restore is completed. You would have to boot from your CD, then boot into OS X (rd=diskXsY X is the hard drive, Y is the partition. It is usually rd=disk0s1) and reinstall the bootloader.

If you are using BootThink as a bootloader, time machine would back it up with everything else, no need to reinstall the bootloader.

XLR,
