i'm a noobie to the osx86 deal, but i just scored on a lenovo [ibm thinkpad] 3000 c100.. when i try to native boot the dvd, i get only the option to boot "network pxe network" and can't find the com.apple.boot.plist file... the install dvd doesn't even pop up as an option.. bah!... so i figured i can do the vmware method then DD to a partition.... well, vmware doesn't do a full boot.... it recognized the DVD inside the drive, alcohol 120 image drive, etc.. but doesn't get past "error parsing plist fileLoading Darwin/x86"... it does detect the boot device... i do have the partition set to independent/xxxxxx... what am i doing wrong? :-(

and yes, i did do the search function

Hi guyin916,

Does your laptop usually boot off bootable CD or DVD when you insert one before starting the PC? If yes, then your OSX86 DVD is not bootable or damaged : try burning it again at a lower speed or try a DVD-R instead of +R.

Maybe your DVD drive is not compatible...

If your PC never boots off CD or DVD, then check if there is a key to enter a boot menu at the very beginning of the computer start. Alternatively, you may enter in the BIOS at PC start in order to change the device boot order and put your CD/DVD drive in 1st position.

HTH,

edav.

thanks edav.... i'll try to burn it at a slower speed..... but it does boot, but the darwin bootloader doesn't detect the drive.. it only gives me the option to boot network pxe boot//// not osx86 dvd. the drive is a ht-lg drive.. i used an external ht-lg burner (super-multi)......

i still don't get why vmware doesn't like me :-(

  • 2 weeks later...

so i put this in my dad's ibm thinkpad. it booted right up. took awhile to boot, but it booted up. i think it's either a problem with the firmware or osx not supporting my dvd combo drive.. i'm going to try to slip my dad's drive into my laptop. if that doesn't work, i think i can get away with slipping my hard drive into my dad's laptop.
