Netkas:

We found a bios for 4850 which allows to have dual-dvi on 4850 in leopard !

Dont worry, no need to flash anything, its all done soft way.

just try the updated aty-init ATY_Init.kext.zip

you will still need to use dvi2vga dongle if using only one dvi, but its easy to fix it by using patched motmot (from patched framebuffers in patched_files from irc)

good luck

also updated aty-init makes osx to think vga has 5.0 GT/s link speed, which is normal for pcie v2.0. (PCI cards in sys profiler)

will wait for other users reporting on this. :) i will then get card.any screenshots, geekbench urls xbench will be nice .

netcas team is really great. The .kext also works for NV cards (even the name looks more ati).

I would really wait for comments. Also if you plan to switch very early to Snow Leopard the buy of that card will be good planed.

For my knowledge the ATI driversets are much more complex than NVIDIA, so non Mac cards are more difiicult to get fixed. The SL ATI driverset is even more comlplex and much new.

I switched from 3850 to 9600GT after reading lots of 4850 probs and also had some nightmare to get my ATI 3850 to run. SL runs perfect - since now no chance for ATI 38XX.

For compare of GPUs OpenGL Extensions Viewer is an good bench - forget Xbench OpenGL!!(very, very old OpenGL features, much to little test window, much to less GPU stress = more an CPU test than GPU).

http://www.realtech-vr.com/glview/download.html

To get an more GPU denpendend Benchmark (not so much cpu depenend) set:

- Fullscreen (32 Bit, at least 1440x900)

- FSAA * 4 (not > 4 because NVIDIAs cant do more than *4 in OS X) - GPU has much more to work

- Benchmark

- anitrosphie * 4

With that Bench(and that settings) you will see much more (less cpu independend) GPU speed differences than for example old XBench.

Here my 1600x1200 NV 9600GT values (30% faster than my 3850) - sure slower than 4850.

If i had a bit more money i had taken an NV 260 insted of 9600GT ;)

The best deal would be an ATI 4770 (fast as 4850 but much less power consumtion) - not working for my knowledge until now.

Hi,

I've tryed this kext and it works

also like the one in iDeneb 1.5 10.5.7 with 2 dvi connected and it works for 2 monitors

but there still are a problem, the mouse lags to much at 2 dvi connected with 2 monitors.

it works fine at 1 dvi -1 vga connected and only 1 monitor works.
