Hi there,

i had Time Machine perfectly running for month. After install i got "Error obtaining mac address" but found some kext to fix that problem, it has worked flawless ever since.

Then i replaced my Asus P5Q Pro motherboard with another P5Q Pro because the old one died. I restored my old OSX installation from an CCC image and everything was fine again, but now i get "Error obtaining mac address" again from Time Machine, but the fixed IONetworking.kext is still in place :/

So i googled a bit and found articles from mac pro owners who got their motherboard changed stating that TM stopped working because the new motherboard has a different mac address. I thought thats it! So i followed the steps and set up my new mac address and realized that it still didnt work, i also get that error when selecting a clean drive so it cant be the same problem.

Now i reinstalled the patched IONetworking.kext over and over, cleared boot/ext cache etc to no avail, still gives me that damn error message...

any1 has an idea on how to proceed instead of reinstalling the whole system ? Thanks!

I've had a similar problem taking a clone of my install to another machine.

Final cut pro was crashing on startup and the error related to a network issue.

After some fishing around i found that deleting

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist

then reboot, sorted the problem.

data relating to thye NIC is held in the NetworkInterfaces.plist.

Your new board has a new built in NIC I assume!

##EDIT# The info in the plist will have your old MB's NIC as EN0. deleteing the plist forces it to be re-cahed setting your new NIC as EN0 ..... I think !##

Yes, that was it!

Before that I tried the "IONetworkFamily.kext replacement method" I found in the Inet, but no success..

Therefore thank you for that very important information!

Running now iATKOS 10.5.7 on a GA-P35-DS3, hdisks over AHCI, Intel Q6700, 8GB Corsair 800MHz,

using a 160GB Buffalo USB 2.5" drive for Time Machine and have a Sparkle GF 8800GT 512 MB CoolPipe (QE/CI ok.)

furthermore a working D-Link DWL-G122 for WLAN

But there is another issue, relating Finder: Preferences doesn't work! Clicking on it and the icons on desktop

disappears for a second - and nothing happens (I would deactivate the delete-dialog - moving to trash)

So most of us have our special difficulties configuring our Hackintosh- and especially I ask me: Why?...

...coz' I'm also an owner of an iMac 24" early 2008 since Feb. 2009 ;-)

I think: It's the sportive moment which accelerate us to make our Hackintosh working perfectly...

EDIT:

Now, using the direct SL (10.6) method (untouched 7.5GB ISO file) all iATKOS-problems went away.

The first boot into Snow Leo after installation from USB stick was out of the box! +QE/CI, +Wlan, +sound...

No KP, no HALT - it's amazing! And using NullCPUPowerManagement.kext in /Extra/Extensions,

the direct Update to 10.6.2 from the Apple menu was only one click ;-) without any error after update & restart.
