MaconPC?!
Hey guys, I've been reading a lot about dual booting Vista and OSX86, but I'm lost... too many articles and stuff. My question is - my PC is running Windows Vista, I have one HD which is divided to C: and D: (120GB each). Is there a possibility to install OS X on one of them, and running Vista as well as OSX86? Can I then uninstall Mac OSX if I want to stick with Vista, without having to format? Thanks in advance! I'm really into Macs lately, but I'm just a simple user and despite reading the FAQ and all I still can't really understand it. If you don't want to take the time to the read the topics and scour google for weeks, then I suggest you do not try to do this unless you like losing data and/or reformating/backing up. MaconPC?!
Can't I just format D: for instance (the drive without the Windows files on it), then run the Install disc of Mac and install it to D:? junoir
YES you CAN install leopard in your d: partition but after installation you will have to set the active partition to c:, as leopard automatically sets it to d: and then you'll have to boot your vista dvd and click repair boot or you'll get the winload.exe error Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/173817-help-installing-osx-on-vista/#findComment-1194569 Share on other sites
gazzacbr
i have os x and several versions of windows (xp,vista 7) on different partitions on my laptop. i personally use 'boot-it ng' to manage the mbr, but there are others. i would recommend a similar boot manager to keep you independant of the os. you will have more problems if you dual/tri boot from either os as you become dependant on that one os working properly, especailly if you want to add/remove more os's later. basically you have a start-up front end from where you select how the computer 'sees' your hard disk, making different partitions active and bootable thereby booting a to different os. do LOTS of reading for this and backup everything on a removable disk before starting. an os can always be reinstalled easy enough but you need separate copies of personal files. good luck.
