lonmoore
I'm going to buy a MAC computer. I will not use it that much and I'm thinking of a MAC Mini or iMac (low end of the price range). Specs don't concern me that much because I will mainly use it for screenshots (and a write-off). But I want the computer to be usable for awhile..... meaning I want to be able to install any OS that Apple releases for the next few years. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks a lot. JBLanteigne
if you're on a budget, get the mac mini with a screen manufactured by someone else that Apple. If money is not a problem, the low end imacs have a better design and slightly better specs but don't expect them to be fast for serious tasks. StormPCs
The iMac is not much faster than a Mini and the Mini is much more versatile. You can use any screen (2 if you like) and with an SSD it's overall speed will be amazing. With the iMac, unless you buy the 24 inch models you will pay a lot of money for a pretty crappy screen. My 2009 Mini with 7200 RPM Scorpio Black 320 GB HD and 4 GB of GHz DDR3 running at 1225 MHz and my C2D CPU running at 2.3 GHz will spank many iMacs, and I payed $720.00 for it (US). The real choices are Mac Mini if you are not loaded or need the incredible design (the size and power make them incredible multimedia machines), and the Mac Pro if you need monstrous speed. I now have 3 Mini's and 1 Pro. The iMac just really does nothing for me, although they are very solid machines. lonmoore
Thanks, guys for the replies. I've been looking at this iMac 24" 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 2GB RAM 320GB SuperDrive HD2600 Pro It has a $100 rebate which makes it sell for $1099. But is it 64 bit? In the specs it doesn't say. inimicus
It's a Mac, not a MAC. Google the two if you don't know the difference. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/171272-which-mac-to-purchase/#findComment-1181921 Share on other sites
