dutchiee (=
hi all,, for quite some time i have had some issues updating to 10.5.7, no boots, USB errors, updater crashing etc but now, i finally have it working. ive noticed that since ive updated to 10.5.7 ive NEEDED to have my BIOS set sata to AHCI mode, otherwise upon bootup it will pause and just sit at Still Waiting for Root Device. Though i dont mind using AHCI to boot i would rather not use it as it makes my vista almost inoperable due to the slowness ? i dont think its meant to happen but my vista cant be used if my hard drives are set to AHCI. Other then this issue, my 10.5.7 install works fine on my p35-dq6, my ram is all seen, hardrives mount, graphics full QE/CI though it just doesnt work without the AHCI setting enabled. Does anyone have any ideas? i have chameleon 2.0 installed with LS8v17 kexts in my /Extra/Extensions folder which enabled me to boot in the first place. If anyone has any ideas on what i could do to fix the AHCI dependency id be so greatful (: Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/171166-wont-boot-without-bios-sata-set-to-ahci/ Share on other sites
Daveta
you can reinstall Vista with AHCI turn on, because vista have the Ahci option! ntsmkfob
If you google p35-dq6 and AHCI, you will see several instructions of how to install AHCI drivers on Vista XP, etc. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/171166-wont-boot-without-bios-sata-set-to-ahci/#findComment-1179840 Share on other sites

Beerkex'd
Though i dont mind using AHCI to boot i would rather not use it as it makes my vista almost inoperable due to the slowness ? i dont think its meant to happen but my vista cant be used if my hard drives are set to AHCI. Boot Vista in AHCI mode and install the latest Intel Chipset drivers. If it's still slow, I think you have to change something in the registry manually. There are plenty of tutorials on how to get both Vista and XP running in AHCI mode, if they were installed in non-AHCI mode. Search. dutchiee (=
oh okay, thanks for the input, i had researched to find out it supported AHCI but never realised it had to be reinstalled; so thought it was something i had done. thanks again (: EDIT: i googled about the registry keys, changed it and rebooted and its still really bad. Ive downloaded the latest intel chipset drivers for the ICH9R and installed them to no avail. is it possible to get my leopard 10.5.7 working without the need of AHCI? im thinking it could be a kext in my /Extra/Extensions folder, and i aint that bothered about AHCI as i dont use any of its features, it just delays boot up time. any ideas? Methanoid
Is there not any way to get Leo to boot from a SATA HDD WITHOUT AHCI enabled?
