sulfo
Hi all! Finally back after 2 months withput I-net due to moving and hassles with my ISP. But back to topic: I got a new Mainboard, a Foxconn 945P7AA - 8KS2, which has a TPM connector on it Could I use that to connect a TPM from an ADP to it in order to install a "unpatched" OSX on the machine... Greetz! Tom Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17113-tpm-chip-onboard-does-it-do-me-any-good/ Share on other sites
bofors
No, because Apple signs it's TPM chips with it's secret "endorsement" key. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17113-tpm-chip-onboard-does-it-do-me-any-good/#findComment-110662 Share on other sites
Ouch
The endorsement key bofors mentioned will be linked to the specific hardware - if you removed the chip from one mobo and stuck it in a new one the TPM checks would fail. bofors
I guess I ignored the "ADP" part because I do not know what "ADP" means but seeing Ouch's post below I take it to mean an Apple machine. However, I do not think TPM's are "linked to the specific hardware". Although TPM chips are supposed to have good physical tampering protections, whereas they are designed to "self-destruct" before giving up their secret keys, it actually might be possible to remove a TPM chip intact from an Apple motherboard and install it in another TPM "ready" motherboard. Of course, this would not make much sense now (or perhaps ever given that the TPM security is easy to bypass with Maxxuss' patchs) because you would in effect be ruining a new Core Duo Mac, but in a few years, when Core Duo Mac Mini's are garbage, old Apple TPM chips might be good for transplanting (but I doubt it). Ouch
My mistake, i misread the tom faq about machine binding. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17113-tpm-chip-onboard-does-it-do-me-any-good/#findComment-110779 Share on other sites

And why not simply use the Mac Mini?
