My "MacBook Pro"

Acer Extensa 4620z

Intel Core Duo

3GB RAM

I got the 10.5.7 combo update back in May a few days after it became available. There were only a few issues I had to fix, but one I wasn't able to was my battery life. On 10.5.6, I had just over 2:30 hours of battery life, now 38 minutes.

Not long after getting the update, I started a major school project on my Hackintosh so decided not to tinker around. Anyway, I just handed in so I'm ready to fix this problem.

I've tried Speedstep, Voodoo Power and Voodoo Battery kexts and the GenericCPUMControl and nothing has worked. Any suggestions?

I'm so totally with you, since upgraded to 10.5.7 my battery has dropped between 45 to 60 minutes lower than from what I used to have on 10.5.5 (2hr & 30min originally - lowest dim screen)... now its just random low full charges

Well I hope there is a fix around here

Because it does run better (apps) on 10.5.7 for me

By the way also an Acer here

Mines: Acer Aspire 3680 - T5500 Intel Core 2 Duo 1.66Ghz/1.67Ghz - 2gb Ram - 160gb (OSX Only) - 15gb(Internal Flash - Ubuntu 8.10)

also mine...but non always, just randomly....

Is it just me but us 3 are Acer's and having same issue of random Low Battery Drop after upgraded to 10.5.7

Hope its not an acer issue mainly

Hello There!

I also have an Extensa 4620z ( see other threads/how-tos ) and so far it's been great. However I can't get the 10.5.7 update to work for the life of me. On my first attempt to upgrade from 10.5.6 I messed up on the intel CPU powermanagement kext removal and totally hosed my system and had to start over. Now I am back on 10.5.5 and have failed at 3 attempts to upgrade to 10.5.7

I can get the update to install and it reboots with no panics. However after the root device loads, it hangs infinitely ( I left it for 8 hours once ). On a good boot its the point where you should get the message "Jettesoning Kernel Linker" but that message never appears an it just sits idle... forever.

What distro / kernel are you using? What release did you upgrade from? Did you follow my guides to install?

Hopefully I can get some tips soon... my next attempt will be to upgrade to 10.5.6 following the method I know works then try again... but any advice or info from any over you other Aplacer heads out there would be much appreciated! Thanks!

As far as I know... it all depends on your Customize settings during installing your OSX distro, As for me I used iAtkos 5i (10.5.5) and if you read all detail info of each of the customize options you will notice what is needed to be selected for an Upgradable osx.. so check your Distro Installer dvd maybe it has that also in there.

Just do a few testings & you will get it correctly, trust me I failed over 6 times, only on 2 recent ones I have successfully upgraded to the official Apple Combo 10.5.7 from 10.5.5

I used iPC 10.5.6, which was a cake walk. If I remember right, I used Voodoo 9.5. As for the graphics card, I select the Intel GMA950, even though our "Macbook Pro's" have GMAX3100. Also I selected Atheros wifi and PS/2 keyboard fix and the apps. (And, of course, the Seatbelt kext). I've had to use the CPUS=1 fix too, but I'm pretty sure last install with the disc, I didn't.

After that, I used the steps from the Wiki of the Acer Extensa 4620z to get the audio running nicely.

And really, that's like 95% working. I've also gotten the Trackpad prefpane, PCMCIA port working and sleep seems to work ok too. I would say how I did that, but the answers are on this forum.

Anyway, after that, I got the combo update from Apple and followed a set of instructions (which seemed to be echoed across the web), rebooted, with Pacificst, fixed the audio, Airport and (now working on) the battery issue.

Awesome! Way to go :) I will keep at it then.

thanks for the reply

Interesting :) I have never tried the CPUS=1 fix before... I actually wrote most of the wiki for our "macbooks" so that will tell you what set up I have.

I have used the vanilla kernel and never selected any drivers except broadcom and power management fix. Updating to 10.5.6 via the genuine apple update worked fine once I figured out to re-install PS/2 drivers before rebooting ;)

Next plan is to upgrade to 10.5.6 via the update downloaded from apple then try to get 10.5.7 working from there.

I have never really even thought to use a hacked kernel, as the reason I bought it was it's striking similarity to the macbook pro ( hardware wise )

Cool to hear the trackpad pane can be made to work finally. As far as battery meter, I was able to get that working with some info from the forums here.

Can you do a screenshot with ALT+SHIFT+3 ? It doesn't work for me.

Yes, it's worked from the get go too. Although it was probably the first thing you thought of, all I can suggest would be check out Keyboard Shortcuts under the Keyboard and mouse preference pane.
