avree
Recently tried to set up OSx86 on my newly purchased HP. Of course, the Intel internal wireless card doesn't work. I bought a Broadcom, designed for HPs and Macs. It works fine in OSX, however, there are two problems. Firstly, if I put the card in the 2nd PCI-E slot of my laptop, it doesn't have an antenna. There's no way to stretch the antenna over. I could A) Splice the antenna with some wires, and try to extend it, using one antenna for both cards (the intel and the broadcom) Take apart the entire machine, buy a new antenna, put a 2nd antenna in. (Not sure how I'd do this.) If I put the card in my main WIFI slot, I get error 104, due to the BIOS blacklist. I could edit the BIOS, but the BIOS file is .FD, not a .WPH as is stated in this guide : http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...p;p=339537& So, any suggestions on how to get this card working? Ideally, I would love to be able to get it working in the 2nd slot (the slot that is intended for the TV tuner), but if need be, I would be fine with editing the BIOS and replacing my Intel Wifi card with the Broadcom. TJE
DO NOT splice your antenna they are designed at a specific length for the frequency range the cards operate at. if you do this you will have 2 issues. 1) the card may stop working on some or all wireless channels. and 2) you will introduce an ass load of noise into your antenna thus rendering it rather dodgy and useless. Use a hacked bios, there may be a version kicking around on the forums that u can use to get rid of the error 104 unsupported device. what model of HP do you have? and whats the possessor? I've searched the forum extensively - no hacked BIOS to be found. I've got an HP HDX 16 Premium Series, Product Number FJ948AV. I've got an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU t9550 @ 2.66GHZ processor, and a Quanta 316B MOBO. Here's the latest BIOS, if anyone can do anything with it : http://g.imagehost.org/download/0994/360FF23 EDIT: Turns out I have an EFI, and not a BIOS? avree
Another idea: rebrand your Broadcom BCM4321: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...mp;#entry531429 I did the rebrand process ago some time: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...st&p=844900 I'll try this. Just downloaded Ubuntu, putting it on a disk now. avree
Firmware trick won't work because the EFI only has one card on the whitelist - the default INTEL card. Is there any way to A) disable the whitelist open up my machine and put some antenna in? xtreme571
I have same model laptop. I ordered myself Gigabyte AirCruiser N300 for like 17 dollars. I tried to put in the Wi-Fi slot, i had 2 problems. Original antenna only had 2 wires, where AirCruiser N had 3 ports, Card was blacklisted giving 104 error. Here is what I did. I purchased 3 wire antenna from ebay for like 10 dollars shipped. I left the Intel card installed along with the antenna it was connected to. I opened up the laptop, there is service manual on HP website. Read on how to replace the camera and sound card, it takes you thru all the steps you would need to install and run antenna cables. Take your time when you do this, don't rush it. it is fairly simple. I ran the wire from the TV-Tuner slot, behind the DVD/BD Rom, to the Intel WiFi slot, and then follow along with the antenna cables to the LCD screen. And of course, put the antenna behind the shield on LCD lid attaching it to the LID not the metallic shield. Don't force any parts to go where they go, they snap in when they are in the right place. Also make sure you take out the CMOS battery when you do it. You don't want the connectors to short out the mobo. Write down which screws go where, some of them are different size, and you don't want to miss one when fitting it back together. Have you tried booting a retail dvd and not install an EFI emulator? Is this old news? Thanks!
