jingz
Hi UPDATE! The old problem diappeared, instead of a new one: Still waiting for root device I have 2 HDs: a SATA and an IDE. MAC is installed on the IDE one which has been set to ACTIVE. I chose kernel 9.2.2, audio driver, and network driver while installing. I have no idea that what leads to this issue. newguy2009
Hi folks, I'm having the same "waiting for root device" problem. I'm installing iPC OS_x86 10.5.6 on a: Sony Viao PCG 9D6L Pentium 4 256MB RAM I have selected Kernel voodoo (which solved the problem of constantly rebooting during startup. I guess required because P4 is SSE2?) I have selected ACPI fix (which solved the IO buffer headers problem also mentioned above) Now I'm stuck on "Still waiting for root device" I've seen suggestions of copying /Volumes/InstallDVD/.../Extensions/*ATA* to the hard disk manually (this was for some leo4all based distro I guess?) but the iPC DVD doesn't have a Extensions directory containing *ATA* files. Just some binary files called Extensions.kext. I've also seen suggestions of trying rd=disk0, rd=disk2, rd=diskn until it finds your disk. Tried these for disks 0, 1, 2 (I only have 1 disk) and that didn't help. Any help or suggesitons are really appreciated. Thanks in advance. jingz
I'm not sure if this is a issue about drivers or hard disks setting. jingz
Is that probably caused by IDE driver? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/170145-please-help-me-still-waiting-for-root-device/#findComment-1175168 Share on other sites

gazepo
That means you didn't install a chipset driver or you have installed the wrong one. gazepo
OK. Boot againg from dvd. Continue untill the "Install Summary" screen appears. Now click Customize. As the base system has been already installed, it will be 0kb, but unselect it for safe. Leave the Lang. unselected. Select your chipset under drivers>chipset Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/170145-please-help-me-still-waiting-for-root-device/#findComment-1175972 Share on other sites
