danerd100
Okay, I have the Asus M2NPV-VM motherboard. This has the 6150 chipset in it. If I were to buy a different video card would it work, or does the chipset contain other stuff that I cannot use if I can't have a 6150 driver? If someone could explain the difference between a chipset and video card, that would be great, but if you don't have the time, I completely understand. MGJulius
If you buy a dedicated graphics card and attach it, then that card will trumph the integrated graphics unit built into the motherboard. Your chipset is not the graphics card, its actually the nForce 430 south bridge. It's purpose is to connect the PCI, SATA, IDE, and other slots together and relay information. Almost everything on this board is supported, however if you install a graphics card youll have to use modified nvidia drivers to get it working properly. danerd100
So when you say almost everything on this board is supported, I'm assuming you mean everything except the chipset? I notice you have the same board, which build did you use, and what other configurations did you need? Thanks in advance Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/169884-geforce-6150-chipset/#findComment-1173001 Share on other sites
gazepo
Your chipset is supported, so don't worry. MGjulius is using iPC 10.5.6 Now about the VGA click >here< and select which of them is gonna be your next VGA. Download the gfx string and follow the instruction. danerd100
So I will be okay even if I do not get a new graphics Card? Which of the drivers do I use from that link? The one that corresponds with the amount of RAM I give it in the BIOS? MGJulius
You will be able to run OS X, but you will not be able to get graphics drivers for you machine (the 6150 is not supported in leopard) and you will be stuck with VESA reslolutions (1024x768 etc.) and horrible graphics. I would suggest getting a good nvidia card (8 or 9) series if you want full graphics support. Here's what I've got working on my motherboard. Sound (99%), Reboot, Shutdown, Graphics, USB, Network (Lan and wireless), and full chipset support. Running 64bit 10.5.7 w/ voodoo 9.5 kernel Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/169884-geforce-6150-chipset/#findComment-1173606 Share on other sites
danerd100
How hard will it be to get my wireless driver to work? And, does PS/2 Mouse work? I have tried several builds in which it did not work Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/169884-geforce-6150-chipset/#findComment-1173616 Share on other sites
gazepo
Remember that you are about to work on a Hackintosh. Some times is easy, but some times is really hard. Almost all distros have a PS/2 fix for mouse and keyboard, but in a few cases it didn't work. MGJulius
To get PS/2 support go into the bios and disable "USB Legacy Support" And as far as wireless support, I need to know your model/brand of your wireless card Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/169884-geforce-6150-chipset/#findComment-1173827 Share on other sites
