[SOLVED] Chameleon 2.0 RC1 GUI never appears on boot; screen just remains black

Something is wrong with the graphical part of the bootloader... When it boots I see the spinning "|" symbol for a second, but then it just goes to a black screen instead of loading the correct bootloader. My GFX card works 100% with EFI strings and NVDarwin (eVGA 9800 GTX) including dual monitors. What could be causing the graphical interface to fail to load?

Anyone?! I'm sorry for being impatient, usually I wait days to get replies to my threads, but I might have no internet for a few days tomorrow cause of some repairs or something, so I'd like to be able to fix this issue before that happens :/

The graphics drivers aren't loaded at the time the GUI appears, it's using VESA mode at this time. The problem is not with your video card.

You may have some files left over from the old bootloader that confuses Chameleon.

I had to manually delete the old /boot before installing Chameleon 2.0 to get it to work, otherwise I would just get a black screen like you do.

Check your /extra/com.apple.Boot.plist to see if it's setup right, and look here:

On a few VERY rare occasions, my system that normally boots Chameleon GUI fine will boot to a black screen and hang.

Try it several times just to be sure. Then, try reinstalling Chameleon to your boot HDD.

@MithrilFox- I've tried many times now with no change in what happens.

@Beerkex'd- I'll look at that link and try to manually delete the files, but I don't think its just the /boot file that has to be deleted. It still tries to load the loader and just stops at like "loading boot file" or something if you delete only /boot. The forums have been atrociously slow all day... Hopefully that link will load up in the next half hour or so lol...

I looked at that link you gave me Beerkex'd, and it doesn't have anything to do with Chameleon 2.0RC1 no GUI issues. I'll try deleting some old bootloader files, but I doubt it will work as I tried it previously (and even wrote a new mbr with fdisk).

That tip about smbios.plist will be useful, but first I have to deal with this -.- Can you also post your attached stock 10.5.7 AppleSMBIOS.kext (or w/e the default is called)?

i got the same issue,

i just downloaded the chameleon 2.0, i install it and when i restart the pc, WTF, black screen (00000.. and JK...).

I could only boot the pc with ubuntu, i thought i could change the boot from there, but... the HD is on "read only" mode.

thanks ... i wish i could fix my boot, or go back to vesa 3.0 boot

wtf ^^^ dude I don't understand if you fixed it or didn't... Anyways, I tried deleting /boot and /Extra from the v9 loader version, and even formatting my EFI partition with Chameleon 2.0 RC1 on it. I proceeded to reinstall C2RC1 on my normal Leopard partition, and BOOM, black screen. What do i do! I REALLY don't want to format my entire drive, re install OS X from scratch, just to have it fixed (or worse, if it still wasn't fixed...)

Now, for some odd reason, instead of just displaying a black screen my computer just restarts after some boot messages load... (still no GUI). I am going to try to delete any kind of bootloader period and see if I can get the simple message that I have selected a non-system disk or w/e or some indication that I'm starting fresh here. It would be a HUGE help if someone explained how to uninstall Chameleon completely.

When you use the Chameleon 2.0RC1 installer, it installs a bunch of files in the /usr directory. Should I delete those as well to uninstall it, or are those files not specifically from Chameleon and would cause problems if I deleted them?

I just tried deleting the files in /usr and I STILL got a black screen. Mother ******* what the heck is left after all of this? There's the whole REINSTALL EVERYTHING option but that's insane and as I previously mentioned I'd like to avoid that. Any ideas out there? I'm going to sleep so I'll be back in the morning for a few mins and then around 4:30PM-5PM EST

Last comment before I go tonight... It seems that the second I use any textual bootloader, whether it be munky's efi v6.1, or PC_EFI/Chameleon v9, stuff shows up and things go fine. When I try to use Chameleon 2.0 RC1 (in any way imaginable), it never shows any graphics and either restarts immediately or hangs on a black screen. I need to figure out why.

Great way to end the night rofl, losing my QE/CI, Audio, and pretty much anything that was working before -.-

Well I don't know how I could use a hidden EFI partition on a MBR disk lol.. Yes, I use GPT. I had Chameleon 2.0RC1 working 100% fine a little while ago, I have no idea why it's so f-ed up now...

d00m42,

Just to make sure, are you installing the EFI boot loader to a SATA HDD? Make sure you are not attempting to boot using an IDE drive, many Hackintosh systems seem to have extreme trouble loading off of IDE devices.

All of my HDDs are SATA... The only IDE devices in my system are my 2 Sony DVD drives. I already erased my HD and am trying to re-install OS X, but for some reason now the installer froze with ~15 min left when I used a retail leopard disk, and when I used iPC 10.5.6 Final, I would get the com.apple.Boot.plist not found error.

Maybe problem is you've tried to boot Chameleon without GUI. That's what i have when install it with GUI off or after adding GUI=No key то Boot.plist. Black screen with white (slightly grey actually) stripe on top
