bpeugh
Dell laptops are probably the worst computer ever made. We see more of those coming in for repair than anything else and it would probably represent a good portion of our overall business. Dell desktops are right behind that. If you plan to use the computer for email/internet once in awhile they are okay. Anything else and you will start wearing out the computer fast. You have to buy the expensive warranty to cover it and then it takes away from the cost. If you are going to get a mini, get the duo because it is well worth the extra money and you can run Parallels on it once you stick in an extra 512MB RAM. Unlike a MacBook Pro I don't think we have ever got one of the new Minis in for repair yet. bofors
Thanks for your support, everyone. I argued and argued with the Apple repair guy at CompUSA, but he wouldn't budge. I even called Applecare's help number and they turned me down. I should have gotten a dell. Try writting a nice letter to sjobs@apple.com (I'm not joking). You might to say that you were told that AppleCare covered "abuse" when you purchased it. Otherwise, AppleCare is a total ripoff (unless perhaps you intend to beat the {censored} out of a laptop while making it look unabused). I've got a few things to tell Steve... Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/16479-i-hate-applecare/page/2/#findComment-111053 Share on other sites
u1m2
Thanks to new regulations for possible integration with the EU we get 2 years warranty on any consumer electronic product in Turkey now. Everything we buy is warranted for two years minimum. Turkey used to be one of the worst countries for consumer rights but nowadays we benefit from the new regulations very nicely. Such as I can buy a product use it for 10 days and return it without any explanation whatsoever and if the seller does not want to cooperate I take advantage of free legal services offered to sue their a$$es. It is surprising to see that in some countries the warranty scope/time can be determined solely by the vendor and a 1 year standard warranty for a laptop is simply not good enough. This is outright shouting out that something is not right about their product so they can't warrant its functionality for even 2 years without breaking up. Apple blabbers about how rock solid the ibook is on the apple website and how it's magnesium chassis is supposed to protect everything inside in case of a fall etc... what a pile of BS this turns out to be in this case anyway! IMHO Apple has to stand firmer behind their products and back their claims up instead of acting as corporate pigs on such instances as this before they really start losing customers (there aren't that many of them to begin with mind you). People buy Apple products mostly because of brand loyalty (and partly because of looks). And here they are charging (as do most other notebook pc manufacturers) a large sum of money for protection from failure of their own hardware which, before you actually buy it, they tell you is a perfectly good product.... albeit for a year only. This can't be the right way to sustain a loyal fan base to support the company for the years to come. Asus is my hero on warranty issues (although their Turkish distributors are totally horrible), standard 2 year international warranty on any notebook FTW. Apple might learn a thing or two from the company that actually manufactures most of its hardware for them I believe.
