Infamy79
I'm looking to build a new Core i7 system (hopefully this week) and want to get OSX on there for Logic Studio. I'm looking to get this Intel DX58SO motherboard if I know I can get it working properly. The EFIX testers seem to be using it with great success in their beta testing, so I figure worst case I can get one down the track if I can't get it working with a free option first. Can anyone provide me with a simple collection of the kexts I will need for this board, especially getting the sound working? I did do a search but many of the threads on this board had been abandoned after a while with little comprehensive info. THEHAWKs
I think The Intel DX58SO is one of the best intel Core i7 Motherboards everything on that Motherboard Works have Fun on Using Logic Studio if you really want to get the best sound you should get a Audio Card and not use the built in one Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/155758-intel-dx58so-anyone-got-it-working-100/#findComment-1096265 Share on other sites

Would Boot 132 be the best way to get this board working? Was looking at getting an Apogee Duet to handle any vocal chain plus provide outputs for monitors. Should this be enough? Synaesthesia
The Apogee Duet is a great sound card. I would maybe go for a Gigabyte motherboard, as I know those work for sure, and it seems the Intel X58SO has issues with Boot-132. The GA-EX58-UD3R is a good value motherboard (Guide), and the GA-EX58-UD5 is the Big Daddy. (Guide) There may be slight firewire issues, from what I've seen, but there are workarounds, or you can just buy a compatible PCI Firewire card - problem solved. Infamy79
Bit late, I've already ordered the motherboard, it was on special and I got it for cheaper than the GA-EX58-UD3R, AUD$100 cheaper than the UD5 too. We have a long weekend coming up this weekend coming so hopefully I'll be able to spend a bit of time getting it all working. I purchased the following: MB - Intel DX58SO CPU - Intel Core i7 2.66Ghz RAM - Corsair TR3X6G1333C9 6GB VID - ASUS 9800GTX+ 512MB HDD - Western Digital WD1500HLFS Velociraptor 150GB HDD - Western Digital WD1001FALS Caviar Green, 1TB POW - Corsair 520W MON - Samsung 2333SW OPT - Pioneer DVDRW It should make for a pretty powerful DAW at half the price or less of a Mac Pro Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/155758-intel-dx58so-anyone-got-it-working-100/#findComment-1096853 Share on other sites

After I make the switch from the barebones 132 CD to the Leopard DVD and it starts loading, I get a reboot. The only thing I did figure out is that you can't have RAID turned on. I had to have the drives configured as IDE before it would properly find the Leopard DVD and begin to boot. mattrb
Since your talking about DAW's You need to get Komplete for 600$, Omnisphere for 475$, and Toontrack Superior Drummer 2 for 300$. Or just download it from audionews.ru Then your DAW is complete. Infamy79
fx45guy - Yeah I'm going to give BOOT 132 a miss and use iATKOS 5i, I would suggest that BOOT 132 may work a bit better with 10.5.7 which has Core i7 support built in to the OS. I also don't plan to use RAID as I will backup to an external HDD so that may help. Mattrb - Thanks for the tips Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/155758-intel-dx58so-anyone-got-it-working-100/#findComment-1097682 Share on other sites
JaE-V
New mac pro's launched, under the hood very similar to the DX58SO...good choice Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/155758-intel-dx58so-anyone-got-it-working-100/#findComment-1097810 Share on other sites
Infamy79
I briefly saw the specs of the new Mac Pro this morning but didn't get to look at the finer details so that's nice to know. Hopefully it will mean a vanilla installation of 10.5.7 isn't too far away. What shocked me was the price of the new Mac Pros. The machine I've put together above has better specs than the base Mac Pro and it is half the price. nateB
I picked one of these up after seeing it listed on the Wiki. I intend at some point to get into a dual boot setup, but at the moment I'm being thwarted by a "com.apple.Boot.plist" error time and time again. I see the same error with multiple bootloaders both on CD and DVD I've tried. I'm burning these from a MacBok Pro with the Disk Utility, at the lowest speed. SATA is configured as AHCI The drive is a Samsung DVDR DL, SATA, on port 0 Where am I going wrong? zhell
It's not your fault, it's Intel's or Samsung's. I have an Intel DP35DP and a TSST DVD drive (TSST="Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology"), but had the same issues with Boot-132. My workaround was to boot the Install DVD from hardisk, using the following steps. ### 1. Boot some hacked distribution (iAtkos is reportedly working for this guy http://uphuck.ggrn.de/forum/viewtopic.php?...71&p=28102). It does not matter if you have accelerated graphics or anything, all you need is terminal. ### 2. Check BIOS. I would always try SATA first (AHCI, not RAID), and only use IDE if you must. ### 3. After the hacked distro's DVD has booted, open Disk Utility and partition your drive with a GUID partition table (GPT) as follows: 1. 1GB HFS+ ("boot") 2. large HFS+ for your final Mac OS X install. Note: If you want Windows on the same drive, create a FAT32 partition as number 2 ("macosx") 3. 8GB HFS+ for the Mac OS X Vanilla Install DVD ("retail") 4. 12GB HFS+ for your hacked distro install ("hack") ### 4. Install the hacked distro into the "hack" partition and get it to boot without a CD/DVD, ie. install Chameleon 2.0RC1. ### 5. Once booted from the "hack" partition, insert the Mac OS X Install DVD and use Disk Utility to copy it to the "retail" partition ("Restore"). ### 6. In BIOS, enable SATA AHCI, disable all Audio, IRDA, Firewire, etc. peripherals, only leave the Ethernet card on. ### 7. Now you should be able to use your installed Chameleon to boot the Install DVD from the "retail" partition of your disk just fine. ### 8. Install it to the "macosx" partition. ### 9. Reboot to the "hack" partition, download 10.5.7 Combo update, and update the "macosx" partition ### 10. Now fiddle around with the kexts of your "boot" partition until you get the "retail" partition to boot. You should maybe start with AppleDecrypt.kext and OpenHaltRestart.kext. I currently have: AppleDecrypt.kext OpenHaltRestart.kext AppleUpstreamUserClientDisabler.kext // Only for nVidia cards LegacyAppleAHCIPortIntelICHx.kext // Should not be needed for ICH10R LegacyIOAHCIBlockStorage.kext // Fixes orange icons in Finder Good luck!
