  1. Why don't you just buy a 2nd hand Mac Mini? Sounds like a lot less hassle
  2. I briefly saw the specs of the new Mac Pro this morning but didn't get to look at the finer details so that's nice to know. Hopefully it will mean a vanilla installation of 10.5.7 isn't too far away. What shocked me was the price of the new Mac Pros. The machine I've put together above has better specs than the base Mac Pro and it is half the price.
  3. fx45guy - Yeah I'm going to give BOOT 132 a miss and use iATKOS 5i, I would suggest that BOOT 132 may work a bit better with 10.5.7 which has Core i7 support built in to the OS. I also don't plan to use RAID as I will backup to an external HDD so that may help. Mattrb - Thanks for the tips
  4. Bit late, I've already ordered the motherboard, it was on special and I got it for cheaper than the GA-EX58-UD3R, AUD$100 cheaper than the UD5 too. We have a long weekend coming up this weekend coming so hopefully I'll be able to spend a bit of time getting it all working. I purchased the following: MB - Intel DX58SO CPU - Intel Core i7 2.66Ghz RAM - Corsair TR3X6G1333C9 6GB VID - ASUS 9800GTX+ 512MB HDD - Western Digital WD1500HLFS Velociraptor 150GB HDD - Western Digital WD1001FALS Caviar Green, 1TB POW - Corsair 520W MON - Samsung 2333SW OPT - Pioneer DVDRW It should make for a pretty powerful DAW at half the price or less of a Mac Pro
  5. Thanks for the reply. Would Boot 132 be the best way to get this board working? Was looking at getting an Apogee Duet to handle any vocal chain plus provide outputs for monitors. Should this be enough?
  6. I'm looking to build a new Core i7 system (hopefully this week) and want to get OSX on there for Logic Studio. I'm looking to get this Intel DX58SO motherboard if I know I can get it working properly. The EFIX testers seem to be using it with great success in their beta testing, so I figure worst case I can get one down the track if I can't get it working with a free option first. Can anyone provide me with a simple collection of the kexts I will need for this board, especially getting the sound working? I did do a search but many of the threads on this board had been abandoned after a while with little comprehensive info. Stu
