Hello,

Been a hackintosher for a while but after another update that went wrong, I've bought a Mac Mini. Now I have to transfer my personal files from the computer with the broken osx86 installation to the new mac mini. I think the easiest way to do this is to put the hdd with the broken osx86 install in an external enclosure and connect with the mini over usb. I'm reluctant to buy such an enclosure however to use it only one time.

Are there other ways to transfer the files? Can I eg connect the two computers directly with an ethernet cable? Will OS X on the mini be able to read the hdd in the osx86 machine when the osx86 is broken?

Advice is very much appreciated!

Thanks,

Raf

awesome question, I want to do such a thing myself. (Although not from broken osx to mini) but I was looking at purchasing an external enclosure but am reluctant to do so for a 1 time thing.

There are quite a few variables, but to boil it down and make it as simple as possible I'll say the following.

If the Hack won't boot, then there's no way for the mini to see it as another machine via a network cable, so you'll likely have to get the HD connected to the mini via some kind of adapter or enclosure. If you look around enough you can likely find an external enclosure for under $20 that will do the job.
