fleebailey33
I noticed that my USB had gone to only 12MB/s and wouldn't even mount some devices. Also as of 10.5.6 firewire had gone. As well as my media card reader. I have an acer m5630 and it had always worked in the past. I played with some things. Then i installed a pci usb 2.0 card and that did not fix my usb. I was looking around extensions folder, I deleted a kext and on reboot i had everything working! AppleHPET.kext was to blame. After deleting that, permissions and deleting caches,(all the usual) it worked! not sure why or how, I also deleted HWsensor.kext, which i am pretty sure didn't fix it but did want to mention media card reader, fw, and usb 2.0 all working now i want to see if this helps others! maybe be added to disabler.kext ? thezebidiah
I didn't remove the HWsensor.kext kext and the solution worked perfect. Thank you! Now all my usb ports and my pci usb card are working. hipunk
This worked for me too. But I now I get random cursor lags. It doesn't matter if my mouse gets plugged into the mobo or my PCI Card. That lag is very annoying, do you also have such a problem? EDIT: I found out what the issue was: I simply had to rename/delete AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext, This is a kext that's responsible for DHCP/DRM {censored} and got introduced in 10.5.6. It produces problems with G92 Graphics chips (found on 8800 GT/GTS/etc. or 9800 GT/GTX/etc.), so that problem does not belong to this thing here. This really solves USB/Firewire problems for many ppl out there that they got with 10.5.6 in a easy way, but you have to know that way! So make it more public plz Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/150666-a-hopeful-easy-fix-for-usb-firewire-and-more/#findComment-1108758 Share on other sites

IntelMacGuy
This topic needs to be stickied. It worked like a charm. Now OSX has found my firewire port. I wonder what other things this fixed.
