530sCheapMac
I feel like I an going to go crazy. My PC, a Dell Studio Slim, will not boot any x86 leopard OS! I have tried both iATKOS and iPC, and they both do the same thing. When I hit enter, they give me the spinning characters, like /,-,\,|... then quit after about 5 seconds. tried -v to see what was wrong, but it reboots the cinutsr so fast I cannot tell what is happening. I think it says smething like loading HFS filesystem or somesuch, then my computer restarts. iPC will it even star in verbose mode, iATKOS told me that. Can anyone help me? I need I do this. 530sCheapMac
nope, this is an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/148963-cannot-boot-to-any-leopard-installer/#findComment-1054485 Share on other sites
UnaClocker
Mmm, Is that one of the new 45nm CPU's? I think you HAVE to run the Voodoo kernel with that. But, there is a chance it's an Asus motherboard in there, my AMD based Dell 530s had an Asus board.. In that case, boot with cpus=1 and see if that gets you into the installer. If that's a 45nm CPU, you'll need to roll your own install disk with the voodoo kernel. 530sCheapMac
see my problem is that I cannot even get to the actual installer... I ahve seen it in VMWare Worksation, bu that never worked... Will try cpus=1 now THANK YOU for responding Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/148963-cannot-boot-to-any-leopard-installer/#findComment-1054491 Share on other sites
UnaClocker
Yeah, I understand you're not getting into the installer. That's why it's going to be a real pain if you have to have a voodoo kernel. Maybe you can swap in a cheap CPU (E2200 or something), do the install, get the voodoo kernel installed, and then swap back to your good CPU.. UnaClocker
What chipset do you have? You don't have kext support for it, whatever it is. Which distro are you using right now? 530sCheapMac
I Am using iPC 10.5.6 and my chipset is IntelG45? let me confirm that real quick yep G45/G43 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/148963-cannot-boot-to-any-leopard-installer/#findComment-1054527 Share on other sites
UnaClocker
Get iATKOS 5i, it works fine with that chipset. I can't believe something as new and highly touted as that iPC distro doesn't. Whatever. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/148963-cannot-boot-to-any-leopard-installer/#findComment-1054542 Share on other sites

UnaClocker
Ok, so boot with -v and see why. Did you select Intel ICHx patch in the custom install? You need that to support your chipset. Sometimes a hackintosh will get stuck at that screen for no good reason, and you just have to try a couple times. Again. Thank you so much for you help. You the first to respond to like 4+ threads. You are making my weekend. UnaClocker
You need to re-install and select a different ACPI, you are stuck right where it tries to initialize ACPI. There are like 4 different versions of it to select on the install disk. There's one that says something about being older, for problem motherboards, or something like that (can you tell I've been through that installer a hundred times?), that's the one you want, I think. UnaClocker
Check and see if you have Quartz Extreme and Core Image working in System Profiler under graphics. If you don't, you're in VESA compatibility mode, and that's why you can't change resolution. What video do you have? As for the one core thing.. I don't have that problem, so I haven't had to solve it, but someone once told someone in a thread I was in, that you can patch the DSDT file to get around the problem. So I'd google "DSDT patch Asus cpus=1" and see what you can find, I imagine there are quite a few people doing it. And J.. iDeneb does not support DSDT at all, it also doesn't have protected kexts. So you can't just download updates from Apple without bricking the machine (or having to run a script to try to prevent bricking that doesn't always work). iATKOS 5i is easily a generation ahead of iDeneb. 530sCheapMac
I just have the integrated Intel X4500HD graphics with VGA and HDMI out (using HDMI), Nut I plan to upgrade to an nVidia 9500 GT ASAP. UnaClocker
There is no OSX driver for that video. You'll definitely have to toss in a different video card. UnaClocker
Intel 4500HD.. And the 9500GT is questionable too, but you have a half a chance of doing that. You'd be far more compatible with an 8800 than a 9500.. Not like there's anything in OSX that can take advantage of a 9500. 530sCheapMac
my only problem is that this is a 'slim' tower, and as such I cannot fit anything but a halfheight GFX card in, So I must be on the lookout for that too.
