Hi all,

I'm used to use OSX86 on my Gigabyte motherboard for more than one year now. I tried ChaosX86, then KalyWay 10.5.2, and iDeneb 10.5.5. Now, I want to install iWork'09 trial but it requires 10.5.6.

So I tried to install iPC 10.5.6 on it.

Here are the settings I choose for the installation :

- default kernel (vanilla 9.6.0 or something like that)

- graphic card ATI 2600 XT PCIE (no problem)

- Audio A889

- network realtek R1000

- ICHx drivers for the chipset

- maybe a restart/shutdown patch (don't remember since I performed 2 installation attempts tonight)

The installation went ok till the reboot, and then after having the apple logo, it starts to display a blue screen, with the mouse available and it remains stucked in that state.

Any idea ?

I tried to type -v at boot, it didn't give me any information.

Then, according to iPC doc, I tried the -f option, and I get the same result again.

Is there something special I should have a look at ?

Wrong section to post this in, but try installing without the ATI driver and see what you get.

The driver is alright, thanks. I can see my cursor normally and I can move it in the screen. But then nothing happens. I still can move the mouse, but the OSX loading is stopped at that time. Could it be a shutdown/restart kext problem ?

Hey there,

I have the same motherboard as you and have the same exact problem. I have an ATI Radeon 3870 though. I am running iDeneb 10.5.4 and everything works great. I cant get iPC 10.5.6 to run for nothing. I get to the same spot as you and the same problem. I tried not installing the ATI driver but that was worse. I will tell you this though. You can still install iWork and iLife 09 with 10.5.5. When you get the message saying that it requires 10.5.6 don't click anything in that window just leave it and click on the other installation window and continue installing. It will install fine and than exit the other window. If you figure out anything on iPC let me know. I am wondering if I should just keep what I have as it is running so well.

Bye

I did it.

Used the same drivers, but at restart, used -x -v -f options, and it rocked !!

The same here. Gigabyte EP35-DS3R, nVidia 7600GT (256). Boots fine without video driver (but it really sucks). Tried NVinject, NVdarwin, NVkush and EFI strings as well... All with the same result.

--Update:

I think, I found a clue... I can normally boot ONLY if I have no audio-driver installed... So, maybe these two things are related, but don't ask me how...

I had the same thing when it didn't install completely. I got a kernel panic during install (i.e. grey screen and You must restart your computer now message), rather than it going to completion and getting the green circle. Being a newbie I didn't know what a clean install should look like. I could boot up single user, but when I tried to boot all the way I got a grey screen and just a cursor. It took a couple days of searching but it turns out I had an IDE CDROM drive and more than 3.4Gig of memory. I got a SATA CDROM today and everything went smooth as silk, just a couple hours ago I got my first OSX install on my first Hackintosh. Yea.

I have the same setup and was wondering what options you picked in order for it to install. I tried about 10 different ones then I got it working with no internet.

All's working for a while now. I can't remember what I did. I don't even know if I used iPC or some other distribution. All I can tell is that I'm currently running 10.5.6 and I find it really nice !

Here is my solution :

1/ install iPC 10.5.6 without a graphical driver. Choose ICHx driver, realtek R1000 driver and ALC889A driver. Nothing else needs to be selected for the installation.

2/ On reboot, use -x -v -f options to start in safe mode.

3/ after logging in, install the radeon patch one can find on http://osx86.radeonhd.eu/

4/ reboot normally, no start options needed

5/ apply the patch for time machine (replacing IONetworkingFamily.kext and reboot)

6/ install iDeneb 10.5.7 combo upgrade patch

Last thing to fix is the reboot/shutdown issue. My computer never do what I want it to do :-)

-> this last issue is fixed using GA-P35-DS4 Fixes.pkg

New last issue -> random freeze. I need to reset my computer to use it again. The sound keeps working whereas the graphical part is stuck.
