Apple to appear at CES 2010?

Jason Oxman of the CEA confirmed Saturday that the group “dedicated a special area at the 2010 CES to Apple-related CE manufacturers.” That immediately sets up an alternative for companies thinking about exhibiting at Macworld 2010, which will not have Apple present for the first time in 12 years.

Do not fear hipsters! Macworld may be gone but it seems Apple will be appearing at CES instead ;) So don't worry, you will still be able to go and Woo at a new piece of aluminium come next January :D

Who knows, maybe we will see Ballmer and Jobs gun it out on the same stage :o

it is about time they did that since CES gets Way More people than Mac World Ever Did and trying to be special by separating themselves from CES was never a Good Idea. Now they will get more people who would probably never go to Mac World See their Both, which takes time away from the others.

There is one thing that could damage Apple, should they appear at CES. They would no longer be what you could call "a monopoly in their own market", they would be in direct competition with the large number of companies present. Worse yet, the crowd would no longer be all Apple fanboys, they will be open to immediate criticism.

Their move to CES is cleary a sign that they believe they are ready to take on MS head on. To do this they have to compete, rather than simply cater to their audience.

This could hurt them. Steve is leaving and they could alienate the core crowd in searching for mass market appeal. Dangerous stuff.

Apple has to become mainstream in order to grow otherwise they'll be stuck with the 8-10% marketshare forever. The day Steve steps down you'll be able to get OSX pre-installed on a Dell.
