LizKas
I have the OS X 10.4.5 pre-patched DVD. I can not install it natively, I get the “Still waiting for root Device" this is because I have the ATI x200 chipset. I do have the new AppleOnboardPCATA.kext that is suppose to fix this but I have no idée how to get that in to the Essentials.pkg\Contents\Archive.pax and in to the pax file. Can anyone send me a new PAX file that includes the new AppleOnboardPCATA.kext or a link to where I can find it? Or is there a PPF patch out there that I can apply to the ISO? Will the x200 issue be fixed in the 10.4.6 patch? I really need help here! Thanks! mactogo
So far, the only way to install it is through vmware. I was also hoping someone could alter the install files to make an x200 friendly version but unfortunately everyone seems to be concentrating on other efforts. digicide
I think probably nobody's working on this because there are other ways to install osx86 on this chipset. I personally used a partition backup made of an intel machine and patched it-- the process I used is documented elsewhere in these forums. If you have questions about this method I can try to answer them... LizKas
I know that it is possible to do it trough wmware, but I really would like to get a hold of a ISO patch or a way of changing files on the ISO files trough MacTrans or similar programs that read MAC file so that I can burn a bootable DVD that supports x200! Thanks LizKas Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/14621-ati-x200-chipset/#findComment-94171 Share on other sites
tristan202
As far as I know the only way to get files into the pax files is with pacifist, and you need a working osx install to use pacifist. Or with a PPf patch of course. Either way, you are in for a couple hours work. On initial boot, OSX looks for drivers in the /System/Library/Extensions.mkext. If it's not there , you will get the "still waiting for root device" . This file must be rebuilt to include the x200 driver. There is a command line tool to do that but I don't remember.
