devilhood
Hey, Is there a known Kernel Flag I can enter to prevent the Mac from utilizing a Dual-core CPU without manually changing my BIOS settings all the time? Reason being, gfx performance is absymal when two cores are utilized, giving off stuttering and jittering graphics constantly. Also, Myzar's disc fails to even boot with Dual-core enabled, which is odd considering the AMD:SSE2:SSE3 disc boots ok, albeit with the jittering graphics in much the same way JaS' 10.4.3 disc performed back in the day. Also, just a warning to people interested in trying out the alternative ISO, make sure you do the permissions fix on the ApplePS2 Kext, search the forum for that info. Any tips would be extremely helpful! Thanks, Pawel. Andrey
Not a problem! Please post if it worked for you! You'll be the first Intel dual-core I've heard of this being tried on. OPTiK
What do you mean but stuttering? I have to dual core CPU and I don't have any problems (that I know of). Andrey
OPTiK: The entire system lurches from full speed to a standstill about every 10 seconds or so. Very annoying. aqualeviathan
What do you mean but stuttering? I have to dual core CPU and I don't have any problems (that I know of). It's a known Athlon 64 X2 bug but I guess it affects some Core Duos too. OPTiK
It's a known Athlon 64 X2 bug but I guess it affects some Core Duos too. Ahhh okay I get it. The topic should have read "Core-Duo" not "Dual Core". Had me worried for a second there :pirate2: Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/14384-dual-core-cpu-causing-graphical-stuttering/#findComment-91859 Share on other sites

santosru
Hi, I'm having the same problem... I just dont know if it's processor related, my Gui is all out of sync, like skipping frames or showing them faster than my monitor refresh rate!! the dock and every effect from the genie effect to the Flurry screensaver... all of them are "Sluggish"... Any explanations?? System installed with MaC.OsX.10.4.5.Universal.Install.DVD(INTEL_AMD_SSE3_SSE2).iso and with the Base Package patche. Also tried various installation pacthes and the result is the same, tried 10.4.3, 10.4.4 and the same result! very frustating indeed.......... santosru
Hi Yes i did tried, and with that flag the system does not boot into the Gui, it freezes with the blue background and a spinning wheel at the bottom. Is there a way to disable one core? via bios i dont dont have that many options, only the option to disable HT and Bit Disable. ps: How i miss my MSI915G combo... the best board ever 100% compatible.... and my P4 530 3.0Ghz.... Buaaaa! help Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/14384-dual-core-cpu-causing-graphical-stuttering/#findComment-92856 Share on other sites
aqualeviathan
I'm 99% sure your problem isn't that your processor is dual core. Pentium Ds don't have the stutter problem that X2s have so idlehalt=0 won't make a difference. santosru
hi Well if not how do i know? What i know is that it seems to me that is a GMA 950 issue, but isnt supposed to be 100% functional at least with one of the 3 OSX versions?? (10.4.3, 10.4.4, 10.4.5), all of them have the same issue.... WEIRD!! Kext is Fully Loaded as seen in the System Profile GMA950.. blabla QE, CI, Q2DE fully suported... Could it be SATA related? I have to starT excluding some options, i have just spent 300$ in a suposed better hardware configuration. gooki
If the idlehalt=0 doesn't work for you try adding this: <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>platform=X86PC cpus=1</string> Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/14384-dual-core-cpu-causing-graphical-stuttering/#findComment-108264 Share on other sites
